Your Passenger Rights with Luxair
As a Luxair passenger, you have rights in the European Union based on EU261 Regulations. As well, if you fly with Luxair to the UK, you will have similar protections based on UK regulation 261.
So, if your Luxair flight departs from or arrives at an EU or UK airport, you will be protected under these regulations no matter where you live or your country of origin. If your Luxair flight is canceled, delayed, oversold, or if you miss a connecting flight, then you are entitled to:

Luxair Delayed Flights
If you have a Luxair flight delay you will be entitled to different forms of recompense based on the length of your delay.
If your original flight is delayed by at least 2 hours, then you should be offered care and assistance. Passengers whose flights are delayed at their final destination by 3 hours are eligible for cash compensation as long as their flight wasn’t disrupted because of extraordinary circumstances like severe weather or airport strikes.
When Luxair flight delays extend to 5 hours, then you should be given the choice of a full refund or a rebooking plus cash compensation when the airline is to blame for the flight interruption.

Luxair Canceled Flights
So, what happens if your flight is canceled? Well, if you're given at least 14-days notice, you will not be entitled to cash compensation, but you are entitled to a rebooked flight at no extra charge or a refund.
When Luxair gives you less than 14-days notice, they are required to provide you with:
- Rebooked flight or
- Cash refund
- Care and assistance (for delays at the airport that last 2 hours or more)
- Overnight hotel accommodation and transport for delays that require you to wait until the next day
- Cash compensation if the disruptions was not due to extraordinary events.
Involuntary Denied Boarding & Missed Connections with Luxair
When flights are oversold and you’re denied boarding Luxair must give you the following:
- A replacement flight or
- A refund and
- Cash compensation
However, in situations where you were denied boarding due to unruly behaviour or you didn’t present the required documentation to board, then you are not entitled to compensation.
In cases where your Luxair flight disruption resulted in a missed connecting flight, then the airline should provide you with another flight to your next connecting point or your final destination. Also, if the previous flight disruptions were part of the same booking, then you may also be compensated with cash if the airline was responsible for the canceled or delayed flight.

Cash Compensation: How Much Can You Get from Luxair
The amount of cash compensation you receive from Luxair is decided based on:
- The length or your delay
- The distance of your flight.

Luxair Flight Refund policy
A flight compensation and a refund are two different things. Regulations allow you to receive both: a cancellation refund and compensation.
In case of a cancellation, an airline will try to re-book you on the similar flight, but if that becomes impossible, a cancellation refund will be a full cash refund. Generally, your claim would succeed, providing there were no extraordinary circumstances beyond airline control.
If Luxair cancels your flight to extraordinary circumstances (such as Covid travel restrictions or a serious illness) and you were offered no replacement flight, you can obtain a ticket refund in full, since your flights booked were not available.
Types of ticket refunds: A full refund must be in cash or credit. Vouchers are allowed only if you specifically agree to it. We do not recommend accepting vouchers due to short expiry dates and potential restrictions on redemption.
Note: If Luxair offers a replacement flight with approximately the same arrival time and you decide not to take it, there is a possibility of you losing the right to get both compensation and a ticket refund.
Rule of thumb: you can generally reject alternative flights and receive a refund in full, if a new replacement flight arrives 3+ hours later from your initial scheduled arrival time.
What is the Time Limit for Compensation Claims?
You have up to six years to contact Luxair and collect your compensation and ticket refunds.
Extraordinary Circumstances
Luxair is exempt from paying its passengers compensation in cash when extraordinary circumstances cause the flight disruption. So, if your delay or cancellation was caused by the following situations, you won’t be able to get cash compensation, but you should still be offered an alternate flight or a refund.
- Airport strikes
- Dangerous weather
- Natural disasters
- Civil unrest
- Security threats
- Air traffic control restrictions
