Keep reading because we’re going to walk you through it all: The easyJet flights most likely to be delayed, why flight disruptions happen, what to do, and most importantly, your rights. Not only that, but you can look for your specific flight and see if it’s eligible for compensation.

How Often Are easyJet Flights Disrupted?

Flight disruptions tend to happen slightly more with low cost airlines, and easyJet falls in line with this theory as you can see in the table.

Fortunately, the airline is making concerted efforts to improve their on-time performance by improving their technology systems. In particular, they’ve recently developed a partnership with the European Space Agency to improve airspace usage and reduce delays by improving communications between planes and air traffic control.

The carrier has also been modernising its fleet with more reliable and efficient planes and working hard to adjust schedules and resources to better manage the busiest travel seasons.

Still, if you had a delayed or canceled flight with easyJet even as far back as 2022, there’s still time to submit a claim. Use our compensation calculator to see if your flight is eligible for compensation.

Problematic Airports for easyJet Flight Disruptions

It’s important to remember that flight disruptions can be caused by the airport as much as by the airline. As an easyJet passenger, be aware that these airports are especially prone to flight delays and cancellations and try to adjust your itinerary accordingly.

  1. London Gatwick (LGW) - As major hub for the airline, Gatwick is prone to high traffic, weather issues, and some operational hurdles that all contribute to more frequent delays and cancellations.
  2. Manchester (MAN) - Because of the air traffic control restrictions and congestion, this airport tends to have high delay rates.
  3. Bristol (BRS) - This airport can be a rough start for passengers going on holiday as it tends to struggle with the high volumes during busy travel periods.
  4. Edinburgh (EDI) - This airport can tends to have more delays for passenger flying to Europe
  5. Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) - EasyJet sees plenty of delays from Schiphol because of its tighter security and high traffic

EasyJet Routes with the Most Frequent Delays

In the same way that certain airports can be worse for flight disruptions, so too can certain routes. EasyJet is no exception here, and the table below will show you which flights are more susceptible to delays.

NOTE: EasyJet uses codes EZY (ICAO) and U2 (IATA) interchangeably, so no matter which you use, you will still be able to find accurate results.

Guidance for easyJet Flight Delays & Cancellations

So, you check the delayed flight list and see that your flight is delayed. Now what?

Well, the first thing you should do is look for alternate flights if you’ve had a cancellation. If your easyJet flight was canceled less than 14 days before your departure, there’s a good chance you could be eligible for compensation thanks to UK Regulation 261. You could also get a refund, even if the cancellation happened more than 2 weeks before your flight.

If your flight was delayed and you’re at the airport, be sure to ask for meal vouchers and keep tabs on your flight app so you can stay abreast of any sudden changes like a sudden gate change or last minute cancellation.

Tricks to Avoid easyJet Flight Disruptions

While cancellations are tough to avoid, you can take some steps to reduce your chances of a delayed flight. One tried and true way of doing this is to opt for early morning flights. Since they’re operating early in the day, there’s a lower chance of them being held up by previous flight delays or cancellations.

For easyJet in particular, you could try avoiding Gatwick and Manchester airports since they tend to have more congestion which can lead to delays. Likewise, fly direct if you can. The more connections you have, the more likely you are to be significantly delayed at your destination. Lastly, stay informed by using the easyJet app and check your flight status before heading to the airport.

If your flight was delayed, canceled or overbooked within the last 3 years, you could be eligible for up to €600 in compensation.Check Your Flight

Why easyJet Delayed or Canceled Your Flight

With all this talk about flight disruptions, you’re probably thinking, “What’s causing all this to begin with?” Fair question - and the short answer is that many things can lead to your easyJet flight being delayed or canceled.

Among them is the fact the airspace has become incredibly congested in recent years to the point that air traffic control has to delay flights in order to keep everyone safe. This is why Schiphol, Gatwick, and Manchester see so many flight delays. Aside from this, your delay could be caused by:

  • Airline strikes
  • Mechanical issues or sudden problems like bird strikes
  • Staffing shortages with the airline
  • Unsafe weather conditions at the arrival or departure airports
