Loganair Strikes: What Should You Do if Your Flight is Affected?
If it seems like most strikes happen during the busiest travel seasons, don’t worry. You’re not imagining things, and you’ve come to the right place. Even though Loganair hasn’t had a strike in recent years, passengers can still be affected by third party strikes by airport or air traffic control workers and many others.
Keep reading to find out what you should do, what you’re entitled to, and how to manage if you hear about a strike that could affect your flight with Loganair.
Strike Alert: 2 December 2024
Edinburgh Airport tanker drivers have voted to strike over the festive season if an agreement about pay increases cannot be reached in the coming days.
Domestic and international flights departing from the airport could be canceled over the busy Christmas and New Year holidays as a result.
Affected routes include Loganair’s domestic routes to the islands, United Airlines to New York, and Emirtes to Dubai.

Canceling or Changing Your Loganair Flight
If you’ve heard that a strike could get in the way of your travel plans, the first thing you should do is check with Loganair (on the app or website) to see if your flight has already been affected.
- If you have a refundable ticket then you can make changes to your itinerary or even cancel, but be sure to check the terms and conditions of your ticket first.
- If you have a non-refundable ticket, then you will not be able to make changes to your flight. However, when a strike has been announced, Loganair will sometimes allow you to make changes to your booking. We recommend that you contact the airline, and find out if they will give you this flexibility.
- If you are unable to change your flight, then wait until Loganair cancels it. Once they do, you will be able to choose between a rebooking and a refund.
Your Rights & Entitlements
If your Loganair flight is affected by an airline employee strike then you may be able to collect as much as 600 EUR from the airline because of the inconvenience. The European Court of Justice has confirmed that passengers whose flights are delayed or canceled are entitled to compensation, thanks to Regulation EU 261. But these rules will only go into effect if:
- Loganair is at fault - or could have prevented the disruption AND
- If you are at least 3 hours late to your final destination OR
- If your flight was canceled with less than 2-weeks notice.
How Loganair Will Help You
If your flight is delayed 2 hours or more, you are entitled to care and adequate service at the airport, including food vouchers, phone calls, and emails.
Also, if Loganair cancellation or delay forces you to wait until the following day, then Loganair is required to provide accommodation as well as taxi service if a shuttle isn’t available.
Be mindful of the fact that, in the case of widespread flight disruptions, you might have to find accommodation and meals on your own. If you do, be sure to keep track of all your receipts for reimbursement.
If the strike causes a delay of 5 hours or more, then Loganair must offer you a refund OR a rebooking at no extra cost.
When You Won’t Get Payment from Loganair
In some cases, Loganair flights are disrupted because of an airport, air traffic control, or another third party strike. When this happens, you will not be able to collect compensation as the airline had no way of avoiding the situation that led to the disruption.
However, no matter who calls the strike, if your flight is canceled or delayed by 5+ hours, you will still be given the choice of a refund or a rebooking.
Wildcat Strikes
If Loganair employees stop working without a prior announcement, it is called a wildcat strike. These strikes are extremely rare, but if it does happen, Loganair will not be required to pay you for the inconvenience. But again, if your flight is canceled or severely delayed, you’ll be offered a refund or a rebooking.
