Delay happened in Frankfurt which did not allow me to catch the transit flight and delta airlines automatically booked another flight the next day.
Our original return flight was supposed to take off at 10:50am on May 21st from Edinburgh and land in Nashville at 4:38pm on May 21st in Nashville. We got a notification 6 hours before the flight that the flight was “delayed” until the next day, May 22nd at 10:50, 24 hours later take off time. My wife is 6 months pregnant, and we’d been traveling 2 weeks and exhausted, and needed to get home on May 21st to reset before the workweek began. Because this original flight was delayed 24 hours, we went to the airport at 5am on May 21st to talk with a representative (because the phone delays were 3+ hours) and Delta put us on a whole new flight and route: May 21st Virgin Atlantic flight at 10:20am flying to Orlando MCO, Orlando MCO to Atlanta ATL, Atlanta to Nashville BNA- 1 extra layover than our original flight, and we were supposed to arrive in Nashville at 9:20 on May 21st- 3.5 hours after the original time. This new routing resulted in more delays: 1.5 hours delayed in Edinburgh with no reason given 2 hours delayed in MCO, partly due to weather, causing us to miss our first connection in Atlanta. We were then put on the last flight from Atlanta to Nashville which was supposed to leave at 11:10 and arrive at 11:20pm in Nashville. This was initially delayed 1 hour due to lack of flight attendants. Then it was delayed 2 more hours due to weather. We sat on the plane for 2 hours and then they cancelled the flight. This resulted in us having to use our own money to book a hotel room (the delta lines were hours long and we’d been up for 24 hours), and we were rebooked on a flight the next morning May 22nd, Atlanta to Nashville, leaving 10:35am and arriving 10:40am, and we finally arrived in Nashville at 11:15am on May 22nd, 19 hours after the original expected arrival. The airline never gave a reason for the very first flight bump to the next day. The airline found us a rescheduled flight, which in theory could have gotten us there 4.5 hours later than expected, but resulted in 3 delays, and a cancelled flight, leading to 19 hours extra. They did provide food vouchers for the Edinburgh airport and for the Orlando airport. We are out of pocket for 2 Ubers, a hotel room, and one meal. And a lot of extra time. My wife is 6 months pregnant and we booked these flights specifically because it was less travel time. We did use chase credit card points but we invested more points in order to have less time traveling for her body. Our doctor recommended keeping the travel time low to avoid medical complications. On top of the return flight being severely delayed, We were ALSO delayed 6 hours on our initial flight from Nashville to Edinburgh on May 6th, which was supposed to be 11 hours of travel and ended up being 17 hours. This resulted in my wife having to take one extra day off of work. We are seeking as much compensation as possible for both of these international delayed flights.
I was not allowed to check in for my flight to Amsterdam, because I would not make my connection since it was delayed. Delta put me on a flight to a different airport (CDG) the next day, causing over a 24 hour delay in my arrival to Boston. I had to pay for transportation from the airport and back to the airport the next day, and had to find accommodations for another night stay. I lost a sick day at work because I was supposed to go back to work. I was supposed to arrive on Tuesday 4/26 at 6:45pm EST, and arrived on Wednesday 4/27 at 12:05pm EST
