If your Jet2 flight LS 1272 departing Paphos heading to Birmingham got delayed, you may be eligible for compensation for a flight delay, which depends on circumstances of a flight disruption. Regulation EU EC261/ 2004 is a European Union regulation that mandates the right to compensation for flight delay inconvenience and lost time for every passenger affected regardless of ticket price and if somebody else paid for tickets.
However, the EU Regulation does not require Jet2 to pay compensation for minor delays less than 3 hours. We arrived at the airport at around 8PM local time via the coach transfer. When we arrived at the airport a Jet2 member of staff announced that our flight had been delayed overnight, I think the reason was a 'shortage of airport staff' or something along the lines of that. We were told by that same member of staff that we would be provided free food and accommodation for the night (which we was) and also that we would be entitled to compensation for the overnight delay. The following day (25th June) we boarded the aircraft on schedule. We were then delayed take-off by approximately another hour due to the airline overloading the aircraft with luggage - the aircraft was too heavy to take off in the short Paphos runway. As a result of this, the airline had to offload around a third of the passenger luggage. At this point we were then assured that we would receive compensation for these delays we had received. When we finally landed in the airport, the luggage took around 1 hour to reach the belts in the lounge. After waiting for all of the luggage to be unloaded off the plane, me and my girlfriend realised that our luggage was left in Paphos to reduce aircraft weight. This was really frustrating, as we were booked to go to a music festival on 25th June. Because of the delayed flight we missed half of the festival, and we both had to wear old clothes as a result of our luggage being left in Paphos. We were promised compensation by multiple Jet2 staff on multiple occasions, and I was in shock when I received an email today stating that the delay was caused by 'Extraordinary circumstances' and that Jet2 weren't in control of these.
