Return flight was direct flight. Only replacement we could find made us 3 legs total to include an overnight 14-hour layover at London Heathrow. We were originally to arrive at our final destination @1220 on Monday, 11JUL22. Instead, we didn't get there until 1310 on Tuesday, 12JUL22. Were informed via email on 10JUL22 that our flight had been cancelled and they were unable to find a suitable alternative for us. No care provided. Cost to get back as expeditiously as possible was 4,535.95 EUR, a FULL day later, and included a very inconvenient overnight stay at London Heathrow Airport, causing us to miss pre-scheduled events in Chicago as well as the lopsided additional costs for the return airfare... 1K+ more for the single return than the roundtrip initially cost.

Our ticket was booked on United using our Mileage Plus miles. We went online to find a new flight once we saw the strike was lingering. We scrolled week after week into the future and nothing was available. Our housing was not going to be available in Sweden, so we had to get home somehow. We booked new flights with United through Lufthansa using cash, since no flights were out there using our miles. SAS, who caused the flight cancellation (SK 945 -- July 10, 2022), took no responsibility and directed us to United. United returned our miles for the flight, but didn't give us money for flights we had to buy at the last minute. Total $3,120.34 for etickets
