My partner (Callum) and myself were scheduled to fly from Tel-Aviv to London Gatwick on 17/4/2022 at 21:20 and land in Gatwick on 18/4/2022 at 01:05. On 17/4 at 10:48 I received a text message from Wizz indicating the flight was delayed to 22:25. When arriving at the gate there was no further information. The airport crew tried to find information and only confirmed the plane had landed late and is being prepared. We proceeded to board at 22:00, following about an hour of sitting on the plane with no further information. At that time the Gatwick airport official website noted the flight as \"Cancelled\" instead of delayed, i.e. air control has already been notified the flight will not be landing in LGW that night. Around 23:45, one of the pilots announced that due to the delay, we have missed the landing slot in London Gatwick (LGW), and we are being diverted to London Luton (LTN) airport. At this point, I have re-arranged a taxi pick up which I have pre-booked and pre-paid for (total cost of £110) from Gatwick to Luton. We took off from TLV shortly after midnight. When we got close to the UK and landing, the pilot announced that due to issues with the baggage handlers in Luton and Gatwick we are being diverted to Doncaster-Sheffield (Robin hood) airport. that caused a lot of confusion among the passengers, and we were assured by the senior flight attendant that there will be coaches to Gatwick or hotel vouchers and that WizzAir would make sure we will get to the planned destination. As we arrived in Doncaster at 03:05 (2 hours after the original arrival time, and 200 miles from the destination), and as soon as the last passenger left the plane, the crew completely disappeared. We were left alone in the terminal with no assistance, no WizAir representative, no coaches, hotel vouchers, or even food and water since all the terminal shops were closed. The Taxi pick-up I have pre-booked was not able to meet us 144 miles away from London so the booking, which I have pre-paid for £110, has been canceled. At the time of landing, there were only two taxis in the airport, for 200 passengers and no busses (the first bus was at 07:30 on Bank Holiday). Luckily some of the airport employees tried to assist us and arranged some water and help, mainly with getting more taxis to the terminal. I eventually got on a taxi to Doncaster Train Station at 05:00, and arrived home at 09:30am, over 8 hours later than the original time of arrival. This taxi and train journey cost me a total of £188.50: Pre-booked taxi - £110 Taxi to Doncaster train station - £50 Train tickets to London £28.50 I have attached a copy of the receipts. As per EU regulation since the flight ended up landing in a different airport, not in the same city, and without an acceptance of re-routing from me (we were not given the opportunity to agree to the change of destination from London to Doncaster-Sheffield). As per EU regulation EC 261/2004 articles 7 and 8 this flight is now deemed canceled. Therefore I expect the full statutory compensation as per the EU regulation. Moreover, since we were left unassisted in Doncaster, it seems WizzAir has failed its Duty of Care as an airline. Wizz Air claimed they will refund me back in June but to this day (24/08/2022) no payment has been made into my account.
