FORMAL COMPLAINT Damaged Baggage β€’ Missing Property β€’ Customer Service Complaint Date: August 5, 2026 Passenger: Francine Vieira Flight: Delta Air Lines – New York LaGuardia (LGA) to Miami International Airport (MIA) Cabin: First Class – Sky Priority Delta Baggage File Reference: MIADL49133 Delta Claim Number: 21538942 Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Case Number: PD260805220204 βΈ» Dear Delta Customer Care, I am writing to formally request Delta Air Lines’ immediate attention regarding a serious incident involving my checked baggage, the disappearance of personal property, and the customer service I received upon my arrival at Miami International Airport. I was traveling on a First Class ticket under Delta’s Sky Priority service from New York (LaGuardia) to Miami. As a passenger who deliberately chose Delta and paid for a premium travel experience, I expected my baggage to be handled with care and any issue to be addressed with professionalism, transparency, and respect. Unfortunately, what occurred was the opposite. βΈ» I. Severe Structural Damage to My Rimowa Suitcase Upon retrieving my checked Rimowa aluminum suitcase from the baggage carousel at Miami International Airport, I immediately noticed that it had sustained severe structural damage. This was not a cosmetic issue. This was not simply a damaged lock. The aluminum shell had been forced apart, leaving a significant opening along one entire side of the suitcase. The structural frame had been deformed to such an extent that the suitcase could no longer close, secure its contents, or function as intended. The suitcase was rendered completely unusable. Because it would no longer remain closed, I was forced to carry it against my body while leaving the baggage claim area to prevent my belongings from falling out. The suitcase is a Rimowa aluminum model purchased for US$2,749.10, and I have attached the original purchase receipt. The enclosed photographs and videos clearly demonstrate that the damage extended far beyond the locking mechanism and resulted in catastrophic structural failure. βΈ» II. My Immediate Attempt to Report the Damage After arriving home and realizing the full extent of the damage, I immediately returned to Miami International Airport to report the incident. At the Delta Baggage Service Office, I spoke with a Delta employee who identified himself only as β€œRodney.” After examining my suitcase, he repeatedly refused to create a baggage damage claim. He stated that Delta would not open a claim because, according to him, β€œOnly the lock was broken.” I explained several times that the suitcase itself had suffered major structural damage and could no longer be used. The attached photographs clearly demonstrate that this statement was inconsistent with the actual condition of the suitcase. βΈ» III. Customer Service Experience While I was inspecting my luggage, my white shirt had become dirty because I had been carrying the damaged suitcase against my body to prevent it from opening. Mr. Rodney looked at my clothing and asked, β€œDid you fall?” Given the circumstances, I understood this question as suggesting that I may have caused the damage myself. I immediately explained that I had not fallen. My clothing had become dirty solely because I had been forced to carry my broken suitcase after it became unusable. As a First Class and Sky Priority passenger seeking assistance after discovering severe damage to my baggage, I found this interaction unnecessary, inappropriate, and inconsistent with the level of professionalism I expected from Delta. βΈ» IV. Employee Identification During our interaction, I noticed that Mr. Rodney’s identification badge remained turned backwards throughout our conversation, preventing me from viewing his full name or employee identification. I politely asked whether I could photograph his badge for my records. He refused and stated that I was not allowed to do so. As a result, the only identifying information I was able to obtain was his first name, β€œRodney.” Because I was reporting significant damage to my baggage and later the disappearance of personal property, I believed it was entirely reasonable to document the identity of the Delta representative handling my case. I respectfully request that Delta identify the employee assigned to the Miami International Airport Baggage Service Office during the time of this incident as part of its internal investigation. βΈ» V. Missing Property While inspecting the contents of my suitcase, I discovered that my Prada sunglasses were missing. I immediately informed the Delta representatives. Only after reporting the missing property did the situation change. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office was called to the airport. A formal police case was created documenting both the damaged suitcase and the missing property. The purchase receipt for my Prada sunglasses, valued at US$489, is attached together with the police case information. βΈ» VI. Concerns Regarding the Reporting Process While another Delta representative was preparing my baggage report, I observed Mr. Rodney approach the workstation, review what was being written, object to part of its contents, and modify what had been entered. Immediately afterward, the Delta representative asked him to step aside so they could speak privately. They walked away from the counter, spoke briefly, and then returned before the report was completed. I was not informed about the reason for those changes or the discussion that took place. Although I do not know why these events occurred, the sequence of events understandably raised concerns from my perspective as a customer regarding the accuracy and transparency of the reporting process. For this reason, I respectfully request that Delta review the report, any related internal records, and any available surveillance footage as part of its investigation. βΈ» VII. Supporting Documentation This complaint is supported by the following evidence: Exhibit A – Boarding Pass (First Class) Exhibit B – Sky Priority Baggage Information Exhibit C – Delta Baggage File Reference (MIADL49133) Exhibit D – Delta Claim Number (21538942) Exhibit E – Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Case Number (PD260805220204) Exhibit F – Original Rimowa Purchase Receipt (US$2,749.10) Exhibit G – Original Prada Sunglasses Purchase Receipt (US$489) Exhibit H – Photographs of the damaged suitcase Exhibit I – Videos recorded immediately after retrieving the suitcase Exhibit J – Photographs documenting my interaction at the Delta Baggage Service Office βΈ» VIII. Request for Resolution Given the seriousness of this incident, I respectfully request that Delta: 1. Replace or fully reimburse my Rimowa suitcase with an equivalent model or compensate me for its original purchase value. 2. Investigate the disappearance of my Prada sunglasses and provide appropriate compensation if the investigation confirms the loss occurred while the baggage was in Delta’s custody. 3. Conduct a formal review of the handling of my case at the Miami International Airport Baggage Service Office, including the actions of the employee identified as Rodney. 4. Preserve and review all available surveillance footage from: * the baggage claim area; * the Delta Baggage Service Office; * and any baggage handling operations relating to my checked luggage. 5. Review any available internal records, notes, timestamps, or audit history relating to the preparation or modification of my baggage report. 6. Provide me with a written response explaining the outcome of Delta’s investigation and the resolution of my claim. βΈ» Closing I have always regarded Delta Air Lines as one of the premier airlines in the United States, which makes this experience particularly disappointing. My objective is not only to obtain fair compensation for my damaged baggage and missing property, but also to ensure that this matter is investigated thoroughly and handled with the professionalism that passengers should reasonably expect. I trust Delta will review this complaint carefully and provide a fair, prompt, and transparent resolution. Thank you for your attention. I look forward to your response. Respectfully, Francine Vieira

Technical problems

What time did you arrive at your final destination? The next day on an Air France fight that arrived in another location MCO instead of PBI What did the airline tell you, and when? Mechanical problem and that the flight was cancelled. I attached all communications received from the airline What care did the airline provide, if any? EUR 10.00 food voucher + Expense Reimbursement (hotel cost was not covered in full). I attached the communications How did the incident inconvenience you? I had to book an Uber on arrival as I did not have any means to come back to my house (around USD 250.00 spent extra) Did you miss an event or lose money? No

Luggage tracking not accurate

Unfortunately, my trip with Delta was not as smooth as I hoped. My original itinerary was from DFW to DTW, then DTW to FCO, and finally FCO to REG. However, the flight to DTW was diverted to Cincinnati to refuel, causing us to arrive late in DTW and miss our connection to Rome. My son and I had to stay overnight in Detroit and were re-routed from DTW to JFK, and then JFK to CTA (Catania), which was a different destination than originally planned. Because of these changes, I was concerned about our checked luggage from Dallas. I waited in line at the Detroit baggage claim office until midnight, and the agent confirmed that the luggage had been re-tagged for our new destination. The next day, the gate agent for our flight from DTW to JFK also assured me that the luggage was being loaded onto the plane. However, my AirTag showed that the luggage was far from the aircraft. Despite notifying the gate agent again, our bags were left behind in Detroit. When we arrived at JFK, the Delta assistance office informed me that the luggage would be shipped to CTA via Amsterdam (AMS). Upon our arrival in Catania, the bags were not there. I filed a lost luggage claim at the airport and had to take a bus to REG. The luggage ended up delayed in Amsterdam, and the claim office in Catania informed me it could take weeks to arrive. As a result, I had to purchase clothes, essentials, and a suit for a graduation ceremony. The flight carrying the luggage from AMS to CTA was subsequently diverted to Palermo, where the bags stayed for several days before being sent to Rome and finally back to Catania. Throughout this time, the local baggage office did not answer the phone, and Delta's tracking system incorrectly indicated the bags were still in Amsterdam. I ultimately had to ask a friend in Catania to go to the airport and retrieve the luggage for me. I have already filed a claim with Delta (Claim 21334347). It has been 9 days without any feedback, and I would appreciate your assistance in resolving this matter. Thanks, Antonino

Our flight was canceled three hours before leaving for the airport. We were rebooked for new flight that was supposed to leave 4 hours later than originally scheduled. It was no longer direct to Cincinnati and they had downgraded our seats to Main Cabin. Flight was delayed at both Paris and Atlanta airport. We did not leave Atlanta til 1am. We were supposed to arrive home at 3pm Saturday and instead arrived at 3am Sunday morning. Claim escalated to airline

On July 11, I had to wait an additional hour at the Barcelona airport to find out my bag was left in Paris. This lead to us missing our scheduled ride to our hotel. I filed a PIR at the airport. We had to pay an addirional 100 euros to get a taxi to the hotel. Then, we had to rush and buy clothing because we were departing on a cruise the next day. The airline said they would compensate us for up to 1920 euros for necessities. So instead of being able to explore like we intended, we spent our time shopping. After being informed our bag was found On July 16, we made plans to pick up the bag when we passed through Paris on July 19th. However, we had to wait an additional hour for the missing luggage to be retrieved in Paris which caused issues with our ride to the hotel. We had to pay 88 euros to check the extra bag.

terrible customer service, poor help

Good morning, my name is William Quinn, I am a 75-year-old disabled veteran going to Ireland with my two sons. On July 9th we came to Fargo for our flight to Minneapolis scheduled for 3 PM. At 1:30 PM we came to the airport. Delta had two associates at the check-in counter; one had a beard, and one did not. We checked in with the associate with the beard; he was very pleasant and had a great sense of hummer. We went through security and proceeded to our gate. While at the gate we received notice that the flight had been delayed for an hour due to a mechanical issue. We then were informed it had been delayed additional hours, and this would have set us back missing our flight to Dublin Ireland. I did not have a problem with this because I understand with any motor, mechanical devices can always have some issues, safety first. However, this would have set back our hotels, tours and meeting our family members. We asked at the gate, and they suggested we check with the check in associates about other flights or different options. We were very stressed and hoping for help. We went to the check-in and the associate without the beard, took our passports and was going to check. The associate struck up a casual conversation with a CSA agent and was holding our passports. After about 5 minutes of the informal conversation, I said excuse me we are really trying to get help here to change flights. The non-bearing agent looked at me and gave me our passport back along with a card from Delta and said maybe this number on the card can help you. I said look we are trying to get help to resolve a very stressful situation and the associate had the audacity to respond that I was rude and he could smell alcohol on our breath. The CSA agent at this point left the area not wanting to be involved with this. By the way, I have not had a drink of alcohol in three years, and my son had 6 ounces of a can of beer that he left at the gate when all of this went down. Since he was no help and we were aware of a flight going to Minneapolis leaving Grand Fork and if we made it we would keep us on track to make our flight to Dublin. We thus rented a car and proceeded to Grand Forks. When we arrived in Grand Forks, we proceeded to the ticket counter where the two associates, seeing our stress proceeded to look at our options, we were very much trying to make our Dublin flight, these two gentlemen in Grand Forks went out of their way to calm the situation and find solutions. I can't speak highly enough for their efforts. They were the best! The outcome was they got us on the next flight to Minneapolis, and we made our Doublin flight. Our trip to Ireland was a huge success. Finally, I would very much like to hear from your Fargo associate while he felt it necessary to make a very stressful situation and make it ten times worse, That day we saw the very BEST & the WORST of Delta associates. Your help to get answers would very much be appreciated. Sincerely, William J Quinn 609-879-1214, biqui7@aol.com

Well, since you asked, I think just about the last thing I want to do when visiting a country, sleep-deprived, is run around looking for underwear and deodorant to buy. When we arrived in Helsinki, our three checked bags were sitting in JFK, I think. Our luggage was absent from our presence for a total of 36 hours. The afternoon of the 17th was spent on the phone trying to hunt down a hearing aid recharger for our disabled son, Casey's hearing aids. Then the better part of the morning of the 18th was dedicated to driving out to an audiology equipment dealer to pick it up. The airline did not provide us with any cash allowance for incidentals. They just filled out a PIR and told us our luggage would be delivered to our hotel upon its arrival.

Technical problems

After the emergency diversion, I contacted Delta both by telephone and in person at Detroit Metropolitan Airport to find a way to reach my destination as soon as possible. The only alternative itineraries offered to me would have resulted in my arrival more than 12 hours later than my original scheduled arrival in New York. Because those options no longer allowed me to arrive within a reasonable timeframe, I declined them. I therefore arranged my own transportation by bus, which allowed me to reach my final destination significantly earlier than any of the alternative flights Delta was able to offer. My decision was based solely on minimizing the impact of the disruption caused by the emergency landing and subsequent flight cancellations.

Bad Planning by Delta Results in Delay

I was flying from FLL to OKC. I was delayed in ATL, my connecting flight, for over 3 hours. I tried to rebook, but there were no more flights to my destination until the following day. I was provided a meal voucher, but I had already eaten. I planned to use it when I got to OKC, but everything was closed by the time we landed. I live over 2 hours from OKC airport and had booked a flight that landed at a time that would be easy for me to drive home after. Because ot the delay, I was too tired to start a 2+ hour drive, so I had to stay in Oklahoma City. The hotel room cost me $140. Overall, it was a very bad experience and was caused by staffing issues.

Our suitcase did not arrive until Tuesday afternoon. The delayed bag contained clothing for two people, as well as our running shoes, which we needed for activities we had planned during our trip. Our children had traveled wearing only their Crocs, which are not safe or appropriate for biking or skateboarding. As an active family, these activities were an important part of our vacation. Because we had no information about when our suitcase would actually be delivered, we had no choice but to purchase essential replacement items. Specifically, I purchased two sets of clothing for myself and my son, along with an inexpensive pair of shoes for each member of our family so that we could safely bike and skateboard as planned. The airline misplaced our suitcase, and we incurred these expenses solely because of the baggage delay. We were also advised that if we submitted our clothing and replacement purchase receipts, we would be reimbursed for these necessary expenses caused by the inconvenience. I kindly request reimbursement for these reasonable and necessary purchases. Thank you for your time and consideration.

We were 4 people : A mother & 3 children (age 18,17 & 11). Flight was from IAH (Houston, TX) to ORN (Oran, Algeria) starting Wednesday 03 June 2026 going through ATL (Atlanta, Ga) and CDG (Paris, France). After many delays, we finally landed in ORN (Oran, Algeria) on Thursday 04 June 2026, but our luggage did not the agents at the airport told us that they will arrive tomorrow (& the did that every single day after) . there were 9 luggage [2 suitcases for which I paid $150 (see credit card receipt included) and 7 carry-ones]. 8 out of 9 luggage arrived Saturday 06 of June late in the evening and it was still missing one suitcase. The black suitcase that arrived was damaged ( see picture included) and the last missing pink suitcase did not arrive until Friday, June 19, 2026 and it was crushed. I had to go everyday to the ORN (Oran, Algeria) airport to check on my missing luggage and everyday they said to me come back tomorrow ( Airport Parking tickets are included). I did not have any clothes except the ones we were wearing. I needed clothes for me & my kids, so I bought some & some essentials while waiting for missing luggage ( I included a copies of the receipts). My pink suitcase had some delicate medicine for my sick child, but after 16 days the medicine was no longer safe to administer to my child.

We then were on the plane for around 4 hours and he announced that they no longer had enough fuel to reach Las Vegas and we needed to get off the airplane while it was refueled and it would be around 20-30 minutes. While we were in the airport an announcement came over the tannoy to say that the flight was now cancelled. There was a group of six of us all aged 60. Two of us were celebrating our 60th birthdays and one couple had proposed in New York and were booked to get married in Las Vegas the following day. We had to sleep in the airport for the night before we were finally offered an hotel room for the following night until we could get the next flight to Las Vegas. We were not offered any food or water and it was absolutely freezing at the airport. Our bag's had gone to Las Vegas so we had to stay in the same clothes for 3 days. All of us are on medication which was in the baggage which was in Las Vegas. I have since been in touch with customer service and they said that there is nothing they can do because the flight was cancelled because of the weather but if the pilot had taken off on time everything would have been fine.

Horrible customer service by Delta after a major inconvenience on my trip

My bags were sent to Amsterdam, and I did not receive them until 5 days after my arrival. I had to arrange the delivery myself; Delta did nothing to assist, and they couldn't even tell me where my bags were located. I had AirTags, and I was telling Delta where my bags were. Since I returned, they have not acknowledged or addressed my inconvenience except to say "inconveniences happen and we are sorry". I spent over $150 in cash, and they won't reimburse me because I don't have receipts, nor will they compensate me with anything for the inconvenience.

The flight from Phoenix to Detroit was delayed. When we got to Detroit we had 15 minutes to deboard, and get across the airport, which was unable to be. We ran and the flight had just locked the doors when we got there to the gate.

Successful claim

The checked bag contained clothing, toiletries, and personal items for two travelers, one checked bag for both of us. We were traveling internationally and were far from home with no access to our belongings. At the time the report was filed, we were not provided with an estimated delivery date or time for the baggage and had no way of knowing whether it would arrive later that day or several days later. Because we needed essential items while awaiting delivery of the baggage, we purchased reasonable necessities, including toiletries, underwear, socks, shirts, and basic clothing for both travelers. These purchases were made solely to meet our immediate needs during the baggage delay. Thank you for your consideration.

I am refiling this claim because my baggage was delayed and I incurred necessary expenses as a direct result. Although my follow‑up claim was submitted after the 21‑day window, I was not informed of this deadline at the time of the delay, nor was it communicated clearly during the baggage tracing process. I acted in good faith, provided all required documentation, and the expenses were legitimate and directly caused by the delayed delivery of my bag. I am therefore requesting that the claim be reconsidered under the principles of the Montreal Convention and basic fairness, given that the delay and resulting costs were fully documented.

America is in Deep Do-Do! !!!~

Be advised that TSA is satanic & that "DHS" is founded upon LIES & FR AUD there were NO airliners used as weapons on 9/11/2001 no radical Arab Hijackers . . . none at all !!!! The whole fiasco was total FRAUD & LIES

bluecheck Other - How about due consideration of the fact that ALL airlines allow the SATANIC TSA to molest travelrs . . . Note that DHS is founded upon LIES & FR AUD. WHY are travelers being set-up by nefarious characters who have NO excuse whatsoever for their actions. Please do Look at the "Evan Fairbanks video" & or "Michael Hezarkhani video" of 9/11/2001 and note that what is clearly depicted in said video(s) is nothing more than "B movie special effects" the entire excuse for having "DHS" is totally Fraudulent.

Our initial flight was scheduled with Delta to be from TYS-ATL-BCN. The flight from TYS-ATL was delayed which meant we were not going to make the flight to BCN. Delta rerouted us to fly with KLM and add an additional connecting flight to AMS. When we arrived in Barcelona, we couldn't find our luggage. After an hour and a half in line to talk with someone at KLM about our lost luggage, we learned that our luggage had been LEFT in Atlanta!! KLM took our information, handed us a paper, and said they weren't sure when we would receive our luggage. We had no idea what to do!! We had to do without prescription medications, prescription glasses, and other essential items that we needed immediately. When we finally received the luggage, the TSA approved lock had been removed, my bag had been rummaged through, and it was ripped! They kept my TSA lock. This whole trip with Delta and KLM was so disappointing because no one offered any help or any solutions on what to do.

No reason given

Hello, I believe I am entitled to compensation for what happened on this flight from MSP-AMS-DXB per the EU Air Passenger rights. This was under reservation G8WB3T. MSP-AMS DL162 on 1/22/26 went fine without major issue (arrived 3 hours late because of maintenance issues at MSP). The 2nd flight AMS-DXB DL9320/KL428 boarded and pushed back on-time but then canceled during taxi before takeoff and returned to the gate. I was then rebooked to go AMS-CDG-DXB but the CDG-DXB also canceled. So I was rebooked on Emirates EK150 AMS-DXB which I flew without issue and arrived at 7:30am which was 7 hours and 29 minutes later than my original flight would have gotten to DXB (12:01am originally). Since I had a canceled flight with -20 minutes notice (less than 14 days) and was over 3,500km, I should get 600EUR in compensation I believe per the EU website. Had the re-routing been 4 hours or less for arrival, then I would get 300EUR but since it was over 4 hours, I should get the full 600EUR. This is my first time having an issue in Europe that delayed my final arrival significantly, so please let me know if I am missing something. Thank you.

Most is straight forward. We were told it can take up to 48hrs so we needed to buy cloths and toiletries for 2 days, as well as extra uber rides to the stores we wouldn't have otherwise taken. Additionally, our luggage was heavily damaged as a result of the delay so we are asking for extra compensation as we will need to replace them now ($100 each)

Technical problems

Boarded flight to ATL. Cargo door would not open to load baggage on a Brand new Airbus plane. They called for a remote maintenance person to fix. After over 2 hours - Couldn’t fix it and no bags could be loaded on flight. We checked two bags and were told it would take several days for them to catch up to us at our destination. After much confusion the crew allowed volunteers to deplane. This is when it went from bad to worse. The two gate agents in Columbus were pathetic. Only advise they had was to pick up a courtesy phone and call Delta as they couldn’t deal with it. Dozens of passengers wanted their luggage back so they could make other accommodations. Confusion reigned as it was determined that ALL the bags would ultimately be offloaded to baggage claim. We did find a clerk in the baggage room who did arrange to get the bags onto a collection carousel. As that was transpiring I was speaking with Delta Diamond operators. (I’ve been Diamond status for many many years). Asking for their assistance to rebook us on the American flight through. Had lotta that was leaving in 90 minutes. I could see there were seats but Delta couldn’t pull his off. So sorry for your problems - nothing we can do. I bought the tickets at an expense of $1200.00. I did get a credit for my flights but when I called Diamond again to rebook my return flight I had to use most of that credit to get my ticket back. I’ve told three separate Diamond agents of this fiasco and asked if we might get a first class ticket home for our inconveniences. Sorry we can’t do that. Incredibly frustrating that I have to be manage the entire change and pay for it after their incompetence

Not having our luggage for 2 days made us have extra expenses for clothes and toiletries. We also had another flight with another airline to Maderia, Portugal, and we were promised our luggage would be delivered to us there. The customer service was horrible and would not give us updates. We ended up having to make multiple trips to the airport which is 45 minutes away from us to try to get our luggage and the Maderia airport lost and found was finally able to help us, which the company did not. Our luggage ended up ending up on another island because of their lack of attentive care.

Shocking arrogance and complete lack understanding

A little delayed. Not serious they way our seats after booking way in advance were changed from row 14 to the very last row on the plane. Pity some intelligence should have been used for my physical condition. Just rudeness. Nothing to do with me was the retort.
