Significant flight delay with no meaningful communication and poor customer care

Dear Customer Relations Team, I am writing to formally request compensation and reimbursement under the Canadian Air Passenger Protection Regulations (APPR) for a prolonged delay on the following flight: Airline: WestJet Flight number: WS2100 Date: December 23, 2025 Route: from Toronto to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic Booking reference: 145415942 On this flight, passengers were boarded and then kept on the aircraft for over six (6) hours before departure. During this time: β€’ No meaningful updates were provided regarding the delay β€’ No food or water was offered This falls short of the standards of treatment required under the APPR, which obligate airlines to provide food and drink in reasonable quantities, timely updates, and appropriate care during extended delays, including tarmac delays. As a result of this delay, we also arrived at our final destination significantly later than the scheduled arrival time. The prolonged onboard delay occurred without food, water, or adequate updates while traveling with a pregnant passenger and a four-year-old child included in our party of 6. I am therefore requesting: β€’ Compensation for flight delay in accordance with the APPR (based on the total arrival delay and whether the delay was within the airline’s control), and β€’ Acknowledgment and remediation of the failure to meet standards of treatment during the extended onboard delay. Given that the arrival delay was six hours, and that WestJet is a large carrier, I am requesting $700 CAD per passenger in accordance with the Air Passenger Protection Regulations. If this matter cannot be resolved directly, I am prepared to escalate the complaint to the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA). I look forward to your response within the required timelines. Sincerely, Galina Khat Email address: Galina.khait77@gmail.com Phone number: 416-574-6431

conf# gepxje for rudy lynda and clara gehrman (they split the res and gave rudy a new conf of GNKVLZ after cancelling our seats.) -flying Kelowna to Calgary - Calgary to JFK -made our connection, 1 of our 3 tickets scanned and then the other beeped. the gate agents started whispering and then told us they would not let us on our booked and seat assigned flight, they changed their reason 3 times. -another agent told us that our seats were given away and that they rebooked us to LAX to then take a red eye at night. -we woke at 330 am to take our original 640 am flight with our 7 year old daughter. the lax flight was not approved by us and was not possible for us to achieve. -we begged them to give our seats back and they continued to board other passengers. -after 90+ min standing at the gate with a crying child, they booked us to Houston and then LGA so we got home at 3AM! -we missed pertinent dr appointment, work, and a school presentation for my daughter. -we suffered high anxiety due to the mistreatment and unfairness at the gate along with the domino effect of no sleep and missing pertinent appointments and work the next day. -our bags did not travel with us and we received them 3 days later with multiple missing items that were in the front pockets of on of our ski bags. -1 ski jacket, and a toiletry bag containing 1 red light device and various face products and ski socks.

This is the account of a journey that began with hope and ended in physical trauma, emotional distress, and unnecessary medical bills, all due to the severe negligence and failure of duty of care by Qatar Airways. My wife, Maaha Unni, and I embarked on a journey from Kelowna (YLW) to Cochin (COK) on November 24, 2025. The scheduled 29-hour trip was meant to conclude peacefully on November 27th. What transpired was a 61-hour nightmare. The initial minor delay on our first flight to Toronto (YYZ) was quickly overshadowed by the catastrophe that followed. Our connecting Qatar Airways flight from Toronto to Doha (DOH), scheduled for 20:10 on November 25th, was delayed due to technical reasonsβ€”a clear indicator of the airline's responsibility. Crucially, as we checked in, I personally and explicitly alerted the Qatar Airways staff to my wife’s condition: she is pregnant and required careful, timely transit. This essential fact was known to the airline from the start. The delayed flight finally landed in Doha on November 26th at 19:45. The delay of merely three hours had destroyed our entire itinerary. Upon arrival, we were immediately denied boarding for the final leg to Cochin. Condemned to Confinement: The 24-Hour Wait The airline’s solution was catastrophic: they issued new boarding passes for a flight departing 24 hours later, on November 27th at 17:30. This forced layover, following over 30 hours of continuous travel, was absolutely unacceptable, especially given my wife’s vulnerable state. The crisis deepened when Qatar Airways staff then refused to provide us with the mandatory hotel accommodation and refreshments for this extended, airline-caused delay. We were essentially trapped in the transit area, unable to leave and secure accommodation ourselves due to the lack of a transit visa. 17 Hours of Agony and Begging What followed was a heartbreaking display of neglect. For over four hours, I was forced to beg and argue with multiple airline representatives for basic human dignity and care. Finally, they offered lounge access, which was useless. The lounge was overflowingβ€”we literally could not find a single seat for my pregnant wife to rest, let alone eat properly. She grew increasingly exhausted, both physically and mentally. My wife, already stressed and fatigued, was forced to endure the airport environment for 17 agonizing hours without proper sleep, hygiene, or rest. It took relentless, continuous demanding and arguing to finally secure basic accommodation the next day about 12:00 PM. Imagine the trauma: a pregnant woman, forced into prolonged, stressful sitting, deprived of necessary rest and care, knowing her physical health was being compromised with every passing hour of neglect. She began to experience alarming abdominal and back pain as a direct consequence of this ordeal. The Medical and Emotional Aftermath When we finally reached Cochin on November 28th at 02:35β€”a full 24 hours behind scheduleβ€”the damage was already done. Upon reaching home, my pregnant wife required immediate medical attention. She underwent scanning and blood tests due to the persistent pain. Worse, she was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection (UTI), an infection that I strongly believe was directly caused by the prolonged confinement, lack of proper facilities, and hygiene during the 17-hour period of abandonment in the Doha airport. Furthermore, this extreme delay caused us to miss the funeral of a close relativeβ€”an irreplaceable emotional loss that no monetary compensation can fully cover. Our Demand for Justice Qatar Airways’ actions moved far beyond a typical delay; they constituted a severe breach of duty of care towards a vulnerable passenger. We demand the following from the airline through AirAdvisor: Full Statutory Compensation: €600 per person (Total €1,200) for the 24-hour delay on a flight over 3,500 km. Full Ticket Reimbursement: A complete refund of the entire flight ticket cost for both passengers, given the gross negligence that led to medical harm. Medical Damages: Full payment for all medical expenses (scans, blood tests, UTI treatment) incurred due to the airline’s failure to provide mandatory care. Compensation for Emotional and Consequential Damages: Significant damages for the severe physical and mental distress inflicted upon my pregnant wife, and for the profound loss of missing a relative’s funeral. We trust that AirAdvisor will use the details of this painful, medically consequential journey to ensure Qatar Airways is held fully accountable for their shocking negligence.

Baggage lost an Delay in departure and arrival

I am writing to raise an urgent complaint regarding my recent travel experience with WestJet on my journey from Calgary to Paris. My flight from Calgary was delayed by 1 hour and 30 minutes, and the aircraft arrived an additional 30 minutes late, resulting in a total delay of 2 hours. Due to this delay, I missed my connecting flight. Additionally, my baggage was placed outside the transit area, and I was not allowed to exit to collect it. I have already filed a missing baggage report, but I have not received a single response from your customer service team. Because of this poor handling and lack of support, I have incurred a loss of approximately INR 30,000, along with significant inconvenience and stress.

my least favorite experience

we booked our trip in march 2025, allotting ourselves over 2 hours time in LAX coming home to go through customs and immigration to make it to our connecting flight to Calgary. somewhere between march and our trip in October our flight changed from 12:55 take off to 12:15 take off. we left to LAX with a 15 minute flight delay from Papeete. when Finally getting through customs in LAX our flight was taking off. so we were redirected to the west jet kiosk, those are not open until 3 hours before a flight now so we called WestJet. explained we were never notified about the time changes. Blame was placed on air Tahiti for their delay in taking off and Avion for booking through them and them not notifying us. I've travelled with points a lot and west jet always made the emails after booking, not avion. long story short it cost us $2800.00 Canadian dollars to get home.

No reason given

I reside in Cork and travelled over four hours by bus to reach Dublin Airport for my scheduled departure. Unfortunately, just ten minutes before arriving at the airport, I received a notification that my flight had been cancelled. This was extremely distressing, as I had already completed a long journey to reach the airport. Upon arrival, we were required to wait in line for several hours to obtain information from airline staff. Eventually, we were informed that we would be rebooked on a flight departing the following day. However, when we returned to the airport the next morning, we were told that there were no available seats on the WestJet flight as promised. After considerable effort and repeated requests, we were finally rebooked on an Aer Lingus flight, which allowed us to reach our final destination on 12 September 2024 β€” a full day later than planned. Throughout this ordeal, the airline failed to provide adequate care or assistance. No refreshments or meaningful communication were offered during the disruption. We were offered a hotel. This incident caused significant inconvenience and personal loss. I was without my laptop charger, which I had planned to purchase upon arrival in Canada, leaving me unable to work effectively during the delay. More importantly, I missed valuable family gatherings and events due to the postponed arrival. The experience was both financially and emotionally taxing. Given the substantial delay, lack of proper assistance, and clear failure to fulfill the airline’s obligations under EU Regulation 261/2004, I am requesting appropriate compensation for the disruption and inconvenience experienced.

Disrespectful Gate Experience, Request for Refund and Review of Staff Conduct

Dear WestJet Customer Relations, I am writing to formally request a refund of the $100 CAD I was charged at the gate in Calgary for my carry-on item on Flight WS620 (Calgary to Toronto, 12:15 AM). When I checked in at the airport counter earlier that night, I was not asked to pay any additional fees, and my boarding pass (attached) was issued without issue. However, at the gate, the staff insisted that I pay $100 to check my bag even though it was a backpack and clearly qualifies as a personal item. I felt pressured and unfairly treated, as I was not given any reasonable explanation. To make matters worse, the staff at Gate D81 were extremely rude, not only toward me but also toward other passengers. I even witnessed an older woman traveling alone being questioned and charged extra for her luggage β€” she looked confused and anxious, and the staff showed no empathy at all. It was upsetting to watch. Once onboard, a member of the cabin crew told me that several passengers had already complained about the same gate staff that night. The flight attendants themselves were kind and professional, but the ground team at Gate D81 displayed behavior that was inconsistent, disrespectful, and completely unjustified. It wasn’t about enforcing rules it felt like an abuse of power and a lack of humanity. I have already shared my experience publicly on social media, but all I really want now is fairness: a refund of the $100 I was charged at the gate. Please review the attached boarding pass and transaction details. I hope this can be resolved quickly and fairly so I can move on from this experience. Sincerely, Simon Peralta Rojas

Lost luggage and terrible support staff in Vancouver.

Our luggage was lost between Vancouver and Manila. It took us several days and six hours by car to get our luggage back from Davao Airport in Bicol. Also, I am 64 years old who had a massive CVA and have also heart failure. I needed assistance. Problems at airport

We arrived at the airport in Amsterdam at 11:30am local time. We found out our flight is cancelled at 12:55, after we were through security, customs and waiting at the gate, this was 25 before we were suppose to board. We did not hear anything from WestJet and couldn’t talk to anyone in person at the airport as Westjet directed us elsewhere. We called the airline ourselves. Much after that we received an email about our flight cancellation and next steps. They rebooked us on a flight out 24 hours later. This cost us a hotel room and additional meals that were not planned for. I missed a days work which cost myself a vacation day and cost my partner an entires day pay for Oct 14th. I will be in contact with the airline but I have not yet.

Flight cancelled and return delayed

We were checked in and waiting at the scheduled gate, my friend got an email with change of gate, which staff at gate were unaware of. While waiting for a wheelchair for my husband we were told flight had been cancelled due to unscheduled maintenance. We were then taken to guest services where we were told we had to wait 5 hrs to fly from Calgary at 1am to go to Toronto. Then leave Toronto at 10am to fly to Dublin where we would arrive at 9.50pm (11hrs late). It was difficult with all the delays and my husband was quite uncomfortable and disorientated with the whole journey.

Horrific customer service and not responding to communication via registered letter sent over 2 months ago,

I sent a registered letter outlining our horrible experience to the Calgary main office on July 3, 2025. This included copies of the relevant documents requesting a full refund in $Cdn. Our flight was cancelled from Calgary to London, Heathrow just as we were supposed to board. After waiting hours at the airport for rebooking (during the Calgary Stampede time), there were no flights until 6 am the next day, no available hotel accommodations, rerouting through Denver rather than non-stop to London. In addition, we had paid for Premium Economy seats on British Airways and less than 24 hours prior to departure we were suddenly switched to West Jet into economy seats. In addition to the costs of the premium economy flights, we are also out of pocket for hotels in Europe as we cancelled after their required cancellation date. WestJet has had over 2 months to address my original complaints outlined in the registered letter sent to the Calgary office. We have heard nothing!!

I could believe how far the distance was from where we landed to the baggage area. I had to stop twice to get my breath, also finally found a ride just before the doors. There was no forewarn about how far we had to walk. Myself and a couple of other elderly people had a hard time. I arrived at the gate at 1:14p.m and the flight was gone. Delta's help center was very rude. They said "that's the problem when you book with Westjet. We can't help you. I booked a southwest flight #901, so I could get home. I would like to be refunded for flight WS8327 and my seat reservation. We called Westjet, they said to call Delta, we called Delta, they said to call Westjet.

Up charge on a ticket

I booked my flght on July 22 2025, and my credit cards was charged, 1248.02 ,,when I realized I did not have my ticket I called on July 27 2025 and the agent said as I had not replied in a timely manner, they would have to reissue the ticket for a fee of $552.84. Meanwhile, if my reservation was not confirmed, why did they not credit my account of the 1248.02. However, I had no choice but to pay the 552.84 to reissue the ticket for the same seat I had originally. I was sent an email confirming my flights both going and returning and that was all I thought would be needed. I have spoken to others who have flown with West Jet and this confirming in a "timley manner" was never asked of them, I would like my money $552.84 returned to my credit cards. Please reply to jaqtc@yahoo.ca , Lynne MacDonell, about the refund, thank you

Up charge on a ticket

I booked my ticket on 07 22 2025, and my credit card was charged for this return flight. $1248.02. then on 07 27 2025 I realized I had not received my tickets, only a confirmation and an itinerary. So I called and when I did I was informed that I did not confirm my reservation in a timely manner so the seat was lost. Then the agent said I could rebook for a fee of $552.84 for the same seat. As I had no other choice, I paid the fee, and am now travelling tomorrow. In talking with a person who flys with you often said she had never had to do this ... I would like my upcharge fee returned. Thank you

Reached Keflavik and was denied entrance to country

At the west jet counter in Calgary I was told all I needed was my PR to enter and that there would be no problem. So I was allowed to board the plan. Up on arriving in Keflavik I was told that i Need a visa and was denied entry and was sent back to Calgary. If I was not allowed entry why was I not told this in Calgary. I spent over $1200 on the ticket the lady in Iceland told me that it was Calgary's fault and should never been allowed to board the plane. Now I have wasted my money which is hard to save. I want a refund or credit. There was 15 others in the same situation has me.

Dog on plane (was a pet not a service dog)

Complaint/major concern July 1, 2025 I was on flight WS 690 Vancouver to Saskatoon June 30 2025 2:00pm – 5:03pm in seat 10F. Question #1 = WHY do you let dogs (pets) onto plane in the passenger area (it was not a service dog)????. This dog was with family I believe in seats 12 ABC. This dog right from the first would whine ,, the whine was quite loud and had a sound worse than fingernails on chalk board. This whining kept up on and off for the first 20 minutes and then again periodically would start up again during the complete flight. You could see the looks on peoples faces every time it happened. Even your attendants were waiting for someone to lash out. I talked to some people as we were waiting for our luggage at the end and they were not happy, one lady said she had to turn her hearing aids off as it was just TOO MUCH. I was on your plane on my way home after a 20 day tour & Cruise and this was by far the worst thing that happened and was totally avoidable and should not have been allowed.

Connecting flight gate was kilometers away

Land at gate A12 in Calgary and told to hurry up to get to to gate D70. With an 18 month old child, 2 carry ons and 2 personal items this was no easy task. No help was offered, just Hurry up the other plane is waiting to depart. Why is it all the Air Canada planes are together? Same went for every other air line except West Jet. 1000$ a person and I’m getting told to Hurry up? I don’t recommend West Jet to anyone.

I pai for Premium on flight 622 Calgary to Ottawa on 23 Jun

YJX AFG You changed the gate from D71 to D81. Because you also changed the plane to a 737-800/8 with extra seats jammed in to hold more passengers in a 3-by-3 configuration. You did not serve a meal, only water and pretzels. Your cabin crew led by "Janice" shouted at passengers when boarding and placing luggage because of the tight space inside your replacement plane. They then made stupid jokes on landing in Ottawa. They need to shut up and try to be pleasant. I want a refund to my credit card (not a useless voucher) for your dismissal of my Premium reservation so WestJunk could cram more passengers into a replacement cattle car to hold more passengers and make more money. I have not flown you for some time and now I know why.

West Jet checked me in to a flight that didn't exist.

West jet agent checked me in May 23rd for a flight on the 24th that had already canceled. He never notified me that the flight had cancelled May 4th. The new flight was not going until 7am May 25th which was over 24 hours in advance. We (my 91 year old mother) and I had to return to her home via Uber and return early the next day. We lost a day in our already short vacation. Much stress.

People on board were rude and speaking very loud.

Two people sitting directly behind me laughed and spoke extremely loudly for the entire 4 hour flight. Even when the flight crew turned down the lights for everyone to sit quietly or sleep these two people did not shut up. I mentioned the situation twice to the flight attendant and all she did was provide a napkin to plug my ears. Very disappointed in the flight crew"s lack of concern and not willing to say something the the two people who were causing the disruption. This was a very late night flight. The two people were obviously ignorant and did not know how to act on a flight, BUT the bigger issue is the lack of action on the part of the flight crew. Westjet you have lost my business,

Calgary - denied boarding due to pet carrrier

This is the FOURTH TIME I have submitted this complaint without a reply from Westjet. I have travelled with my small Havanese dog as an under-the-seat companion on over 10 Westjet flights over the past 6 years. My dog is 16-17 pounds, and stands 9" high. She travels in an airline- approved under-the-seat carrier each time. My dog can stand and has always traveled safely and in comfort. On June 7th, 2024, when I arrived at check-in at the Calgary airport, I was refused boarding and was told that I had to buy a larger pet carrier and to check my pet into the cargo hold or I and my husband would be denied boarding. My pet was weighed and measured, and she complies with the posted regulations for her to travel in the approved carrier that she has always traveled in with me as my companion. The only carrier I was able to buy cost $314.00. My dog was traumatized and ill by having to travel in the cargo carrier. On return from Halifax to Calgary on June 14, 2024 my dog was accepted in her usual under-the-seat carrier, and it was stated that there was no reason why I had to buy a larger carrier and ship my dog in the cargo hold in Calgary on June 7th., 2024. My dog again was traumatized and sick on the return flight in the larger carrier as I had to return her to Calgary the same way. I objected to the denial to allow me to travel with my dog in the under-the-seat carrier that she has travelled in for over 6 years at the check-in counter in Calgary on June 7th. I was told that restrictions had changed and that I had to check with travel regulations for and update by a "supervisor" in Calgary. I checked the travel regulations and could find no changes or restrictions that would not allow my pet to travel in the under-the-seat carrier as she complied with every criteria. I submitted my complaint and a request for reimbursement of the unnecessary pet carrier in the amount of $314.00 in July 2024. I have called Westjet 3 times and have submitted two other complaints. I was told on my last phone call that "my complaint went to the wrong department". I resubmitted my complaint again, and after hearing no reply, I resubmitted the complaint again on November 2, 2024. I have had NO REPLY to any one of my communications or phone calls. On my last phone call on July 23, 2024, I was told that my complaint "was being processed". Since that date, and since my further communications, I have had no reply or response of any kind. I have been a frequent traveller with Westjet for many years. I have never had such poor service or lack of response. I want a reply upon receipt of this message. s

Ultra low fair cannot have a carry on

It's weird/borderline discriminative to let ultra low fair have the option to check a bag for a fee, allow a personal item, but not allow a carry on for a fee. After packing I realized the personal item was slightly too large by a couple centimetres. I was hoping to keep my bag on me but my only option is to check the bag. That means I'll have to bring a second bag to bring things onto the plane and a second small bag to be checked. The other option is to upgrade seat for twice the amount of a checked bag fee. What a scam!

Lost a day of my vacation/inconvenienced

My Flight (WS3542) Kelowna, BC > Calgary was late leaving and I missed my connection flight WS1866 (Calgary to Hawaii (March 20th). I had to wait in Calgary, waiting for a connection flight finally to Vancouver (WS127). (where I had to stay in a hotel for the night and then fly out of Vancouver (WS1862) > Hawaii on March 21st. I was suppose to be in Hawaii for 7 days, but with the delay, I lost one day of my vacation. Also, when I finally arrived in Hawaii my luggage was no where to be found (lost). I proceeded to call WestJet to see if my luggage was found. Finally on the 4th day, March 24th, living with no luggage for 4 days, I called again and insisted that my luggage be found as I was leaving back to Canada in 2 day's time. I was told that my luggage was at the Honolulu airport. Why was I not contacted about this?? I only had 6 days to holiday (losing 1-day due to delay in arrival to Hawaii and furthermore no luggage for 4 days and I was going home in 2 days. This was just not acceptable. Finally, after much persistence with WestJet on March 24th, I finally received my luggage late that evening, delivered to the Hawaiian Princess (where I was staying). My experience was very stressful, plus I lost one day of my holidays and my luggage was lost for 4 days. No one contacted me to let me know that my luggage was at Honolulu airport . It was only because I kept calling WestJet inquiring about my luggage that I finally found out that it was at Honolulu Airport. Communication here to the customer would have been key! I received no update prior to March 24th from WestJet regarding my luggage at all.

Not a specific airport. Issue is with airline itself.

I have an ongoing issue regarding my travel bank. WestJet has made it so difficult to use that I'm concerned it will expire before coming up with a resolution, meaning WestJet is basically robbing me of over $1,100.00. When looking for another solution to the problem I was told there would be fees applied and that WestJet isn't willing to continue to explore options. The agent I spoke with today (March 17, 2025) told me that I needed to accept these unsatisfactory conditions or she would have to terminate the call.
