Vueling Check-in Basics
You booked your flight, packed your bags, and now you’re ready to check-in. This means that you have to let the airline know that you still plan to take your flight. The check-in process also lets you choose your seat (if you haven’t already), check baggage, and get your boarding pass.
When Should You Check-in with Vueling?
Unlike some airlines, Vueling allows you to check-in online immediately once you’ve purchased your ticket, and you have 50 minutes before your scheduled departure time to do this.
You should also consider where you’re travelling and if the check-in window is different because the flight is operated by a codeshare partner like Iberia and British Airways, particularly for online check-in. The following table will give you more information.
Online Check-in Times for Your Vueling Flight
When Check-in Times are Different | When You Can Check-in Online |
You’re flying within the Schengen Area | Until 50 minutes prior to departure |
To or from OUTSIDE Schengen area | 70 minutes before departure |
Flights with Iberia | 24 hours prior to departure |
Tel Aviv | 24 hours prior to departure |
Flying from Amsterdam | 70 minutes before departure |
Flying from Paris-Orly to non-Schengen areas | 85 minutes before departure |
Aalborg, Alghero, Basel, Bastia, Billund, Birmingham, Budapest, Cagliari, Corfu, Crete, Dubrovnik, Geneva, Genoa, Gothenburg, Hanover, Helsinki, Kefalonia, Lampedusa, Malta, Milan-Bergamo, Nuremberg, Olbia, Oslo, Pisa, Preveza, Reykjavik, Rhodes, Split, Turin, Valladolid, Zante, Zaragoza | 4 hours prior to departure |
When Can You Check-in at the Airport?
You can also check-in with Vueling at an airport kiosk or check-in desk. Again, it’s important to check with your departure airport to verify any changes, but in general, you can use the check-in counter and kiosks 2 hours before and up to between 40-75 minutes before departure.
If you’re flying within the Schengen area, the check-in window opens 2 hours and closes 40 minutes prior to your flight, unless you’re flying from Amsterdam where it closes 60 minutes before departure.
If you’re flying to or from outside the Schengen area, the check-in opens 2 hours and 20 minutes and closes 60 minutes before departure. If you’re flying from the Paris-Orly airport, check-in closes 75 minutes before your flight time.
How to Check-in for Your Vueling Flight
Did you know that 45% of airline passengers would prefer checking-in before arriving at the airport? According to the International Air Transport Association’s 2023 Global Passenger Survey, this number represents a steadily growing trend of passengers opting for a faster and more streamlined process via airline apps or websites.
So what method will you choose? We’ll cover all the steps for online and airport check-in so you can make the best choice to suit your needs. First, find your Vueling booking code, which will be a 6 alpha-numeric code that you have received in a confirmation email.
We’re going to give you all the steps for each method so you’ll know exactly what to do.
How to Check-in on Vueling’s Website
The check-in is manual, and we’ve never done self-check-in before. It was easy, especially since I had already paid for my seats and downloaded the app to check in beforehand. - Mahmoud, Vueling TripAdvisor reviews.
Whether you use the website or the app, Vueling’s online check-in will prompt you as you go, so you shouldn’t have any trouble. Nonetheless, here’s a rundown of the steps.
- On Vueling’s website, select the CHECK-IN tab at the top of the page
- On the next window, enter your booking reference number or booking code and last name or email, or choose the departure airport.
- Next, add additional services like baggage or seat upgrades and click NEXT.
- Make your seat selection
- Review the details to make sure it’s all correct and click CONFIRM
- Now, your boarding pass will be delivered to your email or mobile app depending on what you selected earlier.
It’s always a good idea to print a copy of your boarding pass just to have as a backup.
Checking-in on Vueling’s App
If you want to do it online, airline apps really make the check-in process easier. The interface is better on the app than on the website, particularly if you’re using a smartphone. Moreover, the app allows you to get important notifications and check your Vueling flight status. The bottom line, we highly recommend using it!
Once you download the Vueling app, the check-in process is basically the same as we have outlined above for the website check-in. Just remember that if you have checked baggage, you’ll still need to drop your bags at the designated drop-off point in the airport.
When You Can’t Use Veuling’s Online Check-in
If you have any issues with the app or Vueling website, you can still check-in at the airport on a kiosk or at the check-in desk.
You must use the check-in counter at the airport if you are:
- Travelling with a pet
- Booking an extra (empty) seat
- A minor flying out of an Italian airport without an adult
- A passenger needing to verify travel documents or payment
How to Check-in at the Airport
Online check in didn't work and wasted lots of time. Arrived for check on 2 hours early but had to queue at check in for 1.5 hours, then had to sprint to the plane as they were announcing gate closure by the time I was through security! - Alex F., Vueling review, Tripadvisor.
As you can see, the online methods aren’t always reliable. In such cases, you’ll have to go to the airport to check-in, but be sure to have extra time in case of long lines at the counters and security. Also, not all airports have kiosks, but if they do, rest assured they’re easy to use. In most cases, you’ll be prompted for every step.
Kiosks
After you locate one, scan your passport or enter your booking code. Then, follow the prompts for adding baggage or selecting seats. When you reach the end of the process, you can print your boarding pass or have it sent to your mobile device.
For checked baggage, you are able to print your bag tags from the kiosks, especially at larger airports. If you’re departing from a smaller airport, you might have to approach the check-in counter to have them print it for you. After that, drop your tagged checked baggage at the drop-off point, and you’re good to go!
Which is Better: Kiosks or Online Check-in?
Many passengers seem to prefer online check-in methods over kiosks. Both are user-friendly, but there have been some reports of kiosks being unreliable. If you’re running short of time and the kiosk isn’t working, you might face long queues.
So, if possible, try to check-in online first, and then use a kiosk for printing your baggage tags and boarding pass if you want a hard copy.
Check-in Desks
Check-in desks are possibly the most user-friendly option, especially if you don’t want to complete the process online. Just find the Vueling counter, present your travel documents, and the agent will help you with the rest. The downside? This in-person method has limited hours compared to online check-in, and at bigger airports, the queue can be significant. So, get there early!
Managing Your Vueling Booking
If you need to make any changes to your seat selection, baggage preference, or your flight (for example, dut to the Vueling flight delay or cancellation), you can do this on Vueling website and app.
Begin by looking for the MY TRIP tab and choose the option that pertains to you. Then, follow the prompts to make any changes or additions to your booking.
When Should You Arrive at the Airport?
Typically, you should arrive 2 hours before your scheduled departure for European flights and 3 hours before for intercontinental flights.
Of course, travellers needing special assistance of any kind should try to arrive even earlier.
Expert Tips & Advice
- We highly recommend downloading Veuling app. Not only does it make the check-in process fast and easy, but it also gives you status updates and can help you with delays, gate changes. It will even help rebook you on an alternate flight if your scheduled one is cancelled. These apps are free and can make a world of difference to your travel experience.
- Keep your travel documents organised and easily accessible. The last thing you need is to have to dig through your belongings to find your passport, visa, or other documents when you’re short on time. For this reason, you should also take photos of these things so you can have a reference if they go missing.
- Get to the airport with plenty of time beforehand and check-in as soon as you can. This will drastically reduce your stress and ensure a smoother journey.
