Technical problems
We boarded the plane and sat for around 4.5 hours waiting to take off. We were then told that the plane was grounded and we would have to leave. No refreshments or food were offered during the 4.5 hours we were sat there. When we got off the plane we were told to wait for an email to rebook the flight and a separate email would be sent to book a hotel. We were then told to get our bags from the carousel. I went to get my bags from the carousel to find one of my bags had been ripped wide open and my stuff was hanging out. I tried to book the complimentary hotel via the link in the email. The link in the email didnβt work and there was nobody from Aer Lingus in the airport to speak to. They donβt have a service desk at that airport. So eventually after hours of trying I had to book my own hotel and wait for the shuttle. I managed to get to the hotel around 3:00am when the flight was the previous day at 8:30pm. The replacement flight they put us on was the following day at 8:30pm so I had a full day of waiting around. I was told at the airport when I checked my bags for the replacement flight that the QR code for hotel reimbursement wasnβt working and I should go to the Aer Lingus website, which I did only to find this not working either. After a lengthy phone call Iβve been told Iβll receive an email asking me to submit my hotel receipt for reimbursement. In the end I arrived in Manchester a full 24 hours after and I will never use this airline again. I received a bare minimum service throughout the entire ordeal. The staff clearly donβt care.- Philadelphia-Manchester

We booked the flights through Net Flights in August 2025. They were confirmed and paid for in full. Eir Lingus cancelled the direct flight from Manchester, and we had to re-book with a connecting flight from Dublin. When we got to Manchester airport for the 9.25 am flight, we were informed that we were not booked on the flight at all. But we were booked onto the connecting flights from Dublin. After a lot of confusion and contacting Net Flights, they told us that it was air Lingus systems that were at fault and the system had not recognised the booking ref. Air Lingus managed to get us on a later flight that left Manchester at 12:45 pm. a delay of 3 hours and 20 mins. When we landed in Dublin, we only had 40 mins to get through immigration and get to the gates for the next flight, EIO 121, which left at 13:50. We only just made the flight before takeoff. When we landed in Orlando, tired and stressed, we found that we had no luggage, and after further enquiries, our bags had not made the flight on time. we spoke to baggage control, who took all the details and found that our bags were still in Dublin and they would make arrangements for them to arrive the next day. I am diabetic, and all my meds were in my case. They kept in contact with us, and the bags did arrive in the early hrs of the 22nd, 2 days after our flights. We had to purchase new clothes and toiletries to get us by until the bags arrived.- Manchester-Orlando

Airline has received the expenses claim form. There was no information available. Communication was minimal and terrible. The accommodation provided was substandard, not acceptable. No air con and cigarette fumes rooms breakfast was very very poor. We were told about weather however there was no sign of poor weather. More like pilot was going over their allowed hours.- Izmir-Dublin

Refusal to pay promised compensation
When asking for passenger volunteers because of a sick crew member, compensation was promised. No aer lingus staff at Berlin airport, so no negotiation. When issued replacement ticket in Berlin the folowing day, I was told to go to the aer lingus desk in Dublin for my compensation. In Dublin I was told I had to do it online. I was then told 2 days ago that all eligible compensation had been issued at the airport, which was not the case. Even on the aer lingus websute it says that volunteers get a commodation &food, replacement flight AND compensation.- Schonefeld-Dublin

My flight EI 127 was delayed from Dublin on 11th May,2026, this prevented me from meeting up with the connecting flight WS463 in toronto and i was later booked to board AC 0177 after greater than 3hours of wandering round under intense pressure in the airport,i eventually got to YEG at past 11pm . My 22kg checked in baggage only got to the address given following night too. The issue was complained to Air Canada and a case was raised as in the attachment with File reference YEGAC97330- Dublin-Edmonton

Aer Lingus blamed weather for the delay. I've uploaded a screenshot of BBC weather on that day showing sunshine. Other flights were taking off for Manchester, including from Belfast airport.- Belfast-Manchester

Problems at airport
They blame weather at Schiphol, but the true cause was a preventable de-icing fluid shortage, depleting supplies in 72 hours due to poor planning, single-supplier reliance, and inadequate stockpiles despite forecasts. Winter storms in January are expected and inherent to operations; airlines must prepare. CJEU ruling in C-549/07 Wallentin-Hermann v Alitalia confirms extraordinary circumstances require events beyond control and not normal to activity, and de-icing shortages fail this, as ruled by German BGH. Knock-on effects from avoidable issues like this do not exempt them. Their negligence caused immense disruption; this is unacceptable.- Boston-Amsterdam

Influence by other flights
The captain explicitly announced that the initial delay was caused by the aircraft having to return to the gate due to an issue with a passenger. This led to a significant departure delay, resulting in our late arrival in Dublin. The flight was several hours late. That doesnβt happen because of flow management.- Amsterdam-Boston

Strike
Claim details My original flight was scheduled for the 9th, but the airline rescheduled it to the 10th, which resulted in me arriving at my final destination approximately 22 hours later than originally planned (exact times are included in the attached PDFs). The airline informed me about the schedule change prior to departure and offered the rescheduled flight for the next day. They did give me the option for a refund, but apart from this option, no additional assistance or care was provided. Due to this change, I incurred additional costs. I had to stay one extra night in Galway and book a new ferry ticket from the Aran Islands, as the original travel arrangements no longer matched the new flight schedule. After the trip, I made a good-faith effort to resolve this matter directly with the airline by submitting a formal claim through their official channel and providing all requested supporting documentation. After I submitted the receipts and bank statements they requested, the airline stopped responding and the case has remained unresolved. As a result, I have been unable to obtain reimbursement or a final decision on the claim through the airlineβs own process, which is why I am seeking your assistance in pursuing this matter and enforcing my passenger rights under EU Regulation (EC) 261/200- Dublin-Amsterdam

I dont believe there was any medical emergency on this flight or medical issue. I have asked the crew who were friends and pilot. This was due to a general delay... boarding issues, isues with ground equipment etc. Airline has not provided proof of the medical issue- Chicago-Dublin

Problems at airport
We contacted the ground staff about our delayed flight between Leeds and Dublin after security clearance in Dublin airport, which eventually led to us not being able to board the flight from Dublin to Leeds. The ground staff said that they cannot do anything and asked us to contact Aer Lingus via email after the trip was completed. We arrived in Boston almost 4 hours after scheduled time. This incident was a significant disruption for our family as we had 2 little children (but also for me as a University researcher as I had an early morning presentation the next day at Northeastern University, which I had to unfortunately miss due to late arrival in the hotel from airport). Unfortunately, all this could have been easily avoided. I emailed Aer Lingus after arriving back in Leeds, and they had provided a case reference number (01698957), promising to get in touch. However, it has been almost 8 months and even after repeated calls, there is no way to reach their customer service. In addition, Aer Lingus do not have a dedicated customer email team to deal with complaints and we found the entire process to be incredibly stressful and disappointing.- Leeds-Boston

I was travelling from Glasgow to New York, connecting through Dublin. The GLA>DUB flight was delayed arriving, an issue with staffing in the cockpit was the message from the captain. The flight was then further delayed leaving Glasgow and arriving in Dublin. Upon arrival in Dublin I was told by cabin staff on the first flight that arrangements were made. Upon reaching the terminal I was handed a boarding pass for the next flight to JFK, 5 hours after my originally scheduled flight. Once I cleared immigration I reached my original gate, to find that my originally booked flight had not yet departed and boarding was still in progress. I was denied boarding on this flight by gate staff as my boarding pass for this flight had been revoked and a new boarding pass issued for the later flight.- Glasgow-New York

Denial of refund for flight change.
I booked a return flight with Aer Lingus: Exeter to Belfast City 30.7.26, return 4.8.26. Booking ref 284VCS. I was informed last week that my flight had been changed to Dublin. This does not suit me at all and I have not accepted it. I was informed that I could cancel and apply for a refund, but this request was rejected. I phoned customer service last week and waited 45 minutes to speak to a rep- they told me they would action a refund- nothing since then. Yesterday, I was informed that my flight to Dublin had changed again- I don't accept this change either. I believe that I am entitled to a full refund. I have booked a flight with BA, who do fly to where I want to go.Overall

I am writing to formally submit a claim under UK/EU Regulation 261/2004 following a serious disruption to my journey, which was booked with Aer Lingus and operated by Emerald Airlines. This claim is submitted jointly to ensure it is reviewed by both the contracting carrier (Aer Lingus) and the operating carrier (Emerald Airlines), as provided for under Regulation 261/2004, which assigns responsibility to both parties in circumstances such as those outlined below. Booking details: Booking reference: 2QYRGW Passenger name: Gervas Chipasha Original route: Leeds Bradford (LBA) β Dublin (DUB) β Boston Logan (BOS) Original flight: EI3391 β Leeds Bradford to Dublin Operating carrier: Emerald Airlines Scheduled departure: 08:45 on 22/12/25 Summary of disruption Flight EI3391 from Leeds Bradford to Dublin was delayed from its scheduled departure time of 08:45 until 15:00. Documentary evidence confirming this delay is attached. During this delay, I was rebooked by Aer Lingus onto an alternative routing departing from Manchester Airport at 13:55, despite the original flight subsequently being delayed beyond that time. Proof of this rebooking is also attached. Aer Lingus arranged a coach transfer from Leeds Bradford to Manchester Airport. However, this transfer was significantly delayed and poorly coordinated, and Manchester Airport was not adequately notified of our arrival. As a result, despite following all instructions provided, I was unable to board the ManchesterβDublin flight. This issue affected multiple passengers and was not limited to myself. I was then rerouted again via Manchester to London Heathrow, arriving late in the evening. I was advised that overnight accommodation would be provided at Heathrow due to my onward connecting flight not departing until 09:00 the following morning. Upon arrival at London Heathrow, no accommodation was provided and I was instructed to arrange a hotel using my own funds and reclaim the costs later. As a result, my journey was disrupted overnight and I will arrive at my final destination more than 24 hours later than originally scheduled. Claim under UK/EU Regulation 261/2004 Under Article 9 (Right to Care), I am claiming reimbursement of reasonable and necessary expenses incurred as a direct result of the disruption: hotel accommodation at Aerotel London Heathrow (Β£219.00), taxi transport from the terminal to the hotel (Β£15.00), and meals purchased at Manchester Airport (Β£24.00). Total expenses claimed: Β£258.00. All receipts are attached. In addition, under Article 7, I am claiming β¬600 statutory compensation, as this was a long-haul journey exceeding 3,500 km and the delay was caused by operational and logistical issues within the airlineβs control, not extraordinary circumstances. I respectfully request reimbursement of Β£258.00, payment of β¬600 compensation, and written confirmation of processing timelines. Please confirm receipt of this claim and advise if any further information is required.- Leeds-Boston

Awful handling of missing luggage
Flew from Chicago to Edinburgh via Dublin. Aer Lingus gave itself about an hour to transfer the luggage for onward flights but failed. I have reported my case missing, which contains medication, but had zero updates. The only numbers for missing luggage are Irish and American, neither of which I can call using my temporary UK mobile. UK customer services refused to help and advised me to call the Irish number, including telling me that +351 is a UK dialling code. It isnβt but she was adamant that I was wrong and she couldnβt do anything else to help. The failure to send any updates on whether the luggage has been found, never mind when to expect its delivery, is poor customer service. The lack of a UK number and the inability of the UK team to offer help is also poor. The online chat bot cannot offer any support. Itβs the week of Christmas and Iβm left without my medication, gifts, and clothes. Iβve received no update whatsoever. Why make the process so stressful?Overall

We were then then in total futher 1hr 30mins plus sitting on plane ,first they said the weight of bags and plane wasn't right . Then pilot came back on saying the electric stairs outside plane had broke and we couldn't move til they moved it . Then there was a problem trying to get a slot with traffic control ,so just short of 5hrs delayed. Only offered us β¬10 voucher for whole family of 5 when we checked in . Nothing else offered. Technical problems
Aer Lingus did not offer any other flight that day. My daughter, Emily, had a OB/GYN appointment in Germany on Monday, November 25. It was imperative that we, as her parents, attended this appointment. So we made other travel plans from the Toronto airport to arrive in time for the OB/GYN appointment. We booked three one way tickets to Frankfurt , Germany. The compensation we are pursuing is for the new air fares ( Air Canada) and luggage costs.- Toronto-Duesseldorf

Not honoring legitmate reasons for cancelation.
Due to the ongoing government shutdown, essential airport staffβincluding TSA (airport security) and ATC (air traffic control) employeesβare not being paid and are unable to work. As a direct result, the government has reduced air travel capacity by 20 percent starting today. My outbound United flight has been canceled, and the airline has already refunded my ticket. I also canceled all hotel reservations to avoid penalties. Because Aer Lingus is not a U.S. domestic airline, its voucher option is not practical for usβAer Lingus does not operate flights to or from our home region, making it impossible for us to use a voucher in the future. Given the extraordinary and unforeseeable circumstances, I am formally requesting a full refund for our Aer Lingus tickets. The government shutdown has resulted in widespread flight cancellations, including our United outbound flight, which has made our entire trip impossible. We have already received a refund from United and have canceled all hotel reservations to avoid further financial loss. Since Aer Lingus does not operate flights accessible to us for voucher exchange, and the disruption was directly caused by government actionβsomething entirely outside our controlβI respectfully request consideration for a monetary refund. Without it, we stand to lose $1,200, which would be a loss entirely beyond our control. I hope the unique and involuntary nature of this situation justifies an exception to the standard refund policy. Thank you for your consideration. Formal Complaint: Unacceptable Treatment Regarding Accommodation and Meal Vouchers Following Flight EI3275 Cancellation
Dear Aer Lingus Customer Relations Team, I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding the unacceptable treatment and substandard service I received from your partner hotel, Novotel UK Birmingham, following the cancellation of my flight. Flight Details: Flight Number: EI3275 Original Date of Flight: 14/11/2025 Booking Reference: 2UBKXF Cancellation Date: 14/11/2025 Incident Details: Following the cancellation, Aer Lingus provided accommodation at Hotel Novotel Birmingham airport for the night of 14/11/2025 and confirmed that dinner and breakfast were included as part of the re-accommodation package. Upon attempting to have dinner at the hotel's restaurant, I was treated in a manner that felt highly discriminatory and deeply insulting. I was initially informed that the restaurant was 'fully reserved' and that I should have made a booking, despite visibly seeing numerous empty tables. I was then told I could sit and eat at the bar area. Finally, I was instructed not to even sit at the bar counter but to 'go stand aside' or 'sit on the side' to consume my meal. This behaviour made me feel like a second-class citizen and was a profound humiliation, especially considering that the airline had officially covered the cost of the meal. The hotel staff's attitude and actions were directly contradictory to the level of service your passengers deserve when already experiencing the stress of a flight disruption. Aer Lingus is responsible for the service standards provided by its contracted partners. The treatment I received is completely unacceptable and constitutes a breach of the duty of care owed to me under Regulation EC 261/2004 regarding the provision of meals during long delays/cancellations. Demand for Action: I request that Aer Lingus immediately investigate this incident with the hotel management at Hotel Novotel at Birmingham airport and ensure that no other customer is subjected to such degrading treatment. Furthermore, I demand appropriate compensation for the significant distress, inconvenience, and insult caused by your partner's staff. (Waitress name was Harman.) I expect a substantive response and a proposal for resolution within 7-14 working days. Thank you for your prompt attention to this urgent matter. Aer Lingus take no ACCOUNTABILITY
Booked flight 17.01.25 to fly to NYC for wedding in Nov 25. 2 weeks before flight was due, email received stating Aer Lingus cancelled the flight. Alternative flight offered, so accepted was emailed 10 mins later stating offer now declined as that flight was full, so unable to fly. Had 3 hotels booked in USA. 2 x NYC and 1 x Connecticut. All 3 had be cancelled along with flight. Financially now at a loss. Exchange rates on refunds for hotel, mean I have received less than what I paid. Tried to contact Aer Lingus, long drawn out process. Waiting now for over 11 days for email to confirm why flight was cancelled. Told by 1 operative Plane malfunction, but he can not email me that information it has to be sent by the correct procedures and team. Chased it up several times, excuses, excuses, excuses. Aer Lingus, I will not be going away, I want COMPENSATION, for the INCONVENIENCE, FINANCIAL LOSS, EMOTIONAL UPSET, MISSED WEDDING. Case number 5868411 Voucher Number: 7807778648413954 Dear Sir or Madam, due to the coronavirus pandemic, we were unable to take our flight, and we were able to receive our money in the form of a voucher. See the email below dated February 12, 2021. We have always flown from Zurich, and at that time it was possible to select prices in euros on the flight booking page, so we didn't think much of receiving the voucher in euros. Over the past few years and currently, we have contacted you several times because we would like to use the voucher, as it is, after all, our money that we paid back then. Unfortunately, you have not been able to help us so far, either because your customer service spoke poor English or because they did not understand the problem. Therefore, we are writing to you again: We would like our money back, as we have not been able to redeem the voucher to date. The terms and conditions on your website have developed to our disadvantage, so that we can no longer pay in β¬ despite paying in CHF, and thus the voucher will never be redeemable for us, even though it is our money!!!! Awful bike booking procedure, dreadful helpline agent service, cynical complaints procedure
Aer Lingus make it difficult to book a bike, one has to phone the awful helpline, wait an hour, speak to an agent with poor English. Ryanair let you click on the booking site! After my hour in purgatory and giving the agent my card details to add my bike, nothing happened. No record with Aer Lingus, no deduction on my card. Same ritual a few days later, this time successful. I let Aer Lingus know that they should let us book a bike online, and how awful their helpline is. I received an acknowledgement by email. Days later I am emailed that they need more details (Booking ref, passenger name, email, phone, ticket number-hard to find, billing address date of birth for all passengers, passport numbers) to act on my complaint: NO YOU DON'T. This is nothing but a cynical avoidance tactic. Aer Lingus needs to know how badly they are doing and how backward their system is. Don't make it difficult to let you know this, I am not looking for money from you.- Economy

I had personal business (purchase of secondhand van) to attend to which had to be rushed due to the loss of daylight. Once agreement had been made the transaction that was supposed to be complete during office hours now went on into late evening due to the late arrival. This meant a prolonged wait (by all parties involved, not just me) into the evening for bank confirmation which may not have completed that evening. I then had to make my return arrangements after hours, without the aid of office staff leading to a costly lights out online purchase which would ordinarily have been avoided.
