It doesn’t matter if you’re traveling for business or pleasure, if your baggage is lost or damaged after a flight, your trip can quickly turn into a nightmare. Fortunately, if you’re flying with Norse Atlantic, you get as much as roughly £1,600 (€1,920) in compensation if your baggage is mishandled.

This guide will explain what you should do if your Norse Atlantic baggage is missing or damaged, how to file the necessary reports, and file a compensation claim with the airline.

What to Do if Your Baggage is Missing after a Norse Atlantic Flight

You’ve made your way to the Norse Atlantic baggage carousel, and your luggage doesn’t show up. Here’s what you should do:

Take these steps if your luggage is missing

  1. Create a Delayed Baggage Report by navigating to the Home page of the Norse Atlantic website and looking for Create a Report. You can also do this at the Baggage Help desk in the airport.
  2. When completing the report, you will need to provide a thorough description of your belongings and your bag tag number that was given to you when you checked your bags at the departure airport.
  3. When you’re finished, you’ll be given a Property Irregularity Report (or Baggage Irregularity Report) number. DO NOT LOSE THIS!
  4. Norse Atlantic will contact you as soon as your bags have been located to arrange delivery, but they will also use the contact info you provided to give you status updates.

If 3 days pass, and your luggage is still missing, go to the Manage an Existing Report section on the Norse Atlantic site, and complete a Baggage Inventory Form. This form will ask you for specific information about your bags, including a general description of what your items looked like as well as some details about the contents. This will help Norse Atlantic locate your belongings more quickly.

When is Baggage Considered Officially Lost?

Norse Atlantic considers missing baggage “delayed” until 21 days have passed, at which point it is deemed lost. Fortunately, it’s very rare for baggage to go missing for this amount of time, but if it does, then you should file a compensation claim as soon as 21 days have elapsed.

Can You Get Reimbursed for Essential Purchases?

Of course, you will probably need to buy some essentials to hold you over while your bags are missing. If you do purchase toiletries or clothing, remember to retain copies of all receipts to submit later for reimbursement.

Norse Atlantic will reimburse you for these expenses, but they will only provide up to $2,080 in compensation, including reimbursement, so be sure to only buy what you need.

To be reimbursed for essential purchases, write to baggage@flynorse.com within 21 days of getting your bags.

Damaged Baggage Following a Norse Atlantic Flight

If you discover that your baggage has been damaged after a flight, you will need to:

  1. Contact the baggage service agents at the airport. You can find a complete list for all EU airports in the next section.
  2. Report the damage before leaving the airport, if possible, and complete a Property Irregularity Report. The agents will inspect the damage and add their findings to your report.
  3. Take photos of the damage
  4. Keep the Property Irregularity Report (PIR) number to use when you file a claim with Norse Atlantic.
warning

Important: If you realise your bags are damaged after leaving the airport, you have 7 days to complete the damaged baggage report either on the airline’s website or at the airport. Do not skip this step. Claims filed without the PIR will likely be rejected.

If you’re away from home, you can make essential purchases, but remember to keep the receipts so you can file these with your baggage compensation claim.

How to Keep Your Baggage from Getting Lost or Damaged

Here are a few tips to keep your baggage from being mishandled in the future.

  1. Add baggage labels. Add your name, email, and phone number to both the outside and inside of your bags.
  2. Take photos of your suitcases. Snap photos of the contents as well as the exterior. This will help the airline locate your items if they’re missing. If your luggage is damaged, you will have a way of proving what they looked like prior to checking them with the carrier. You will also have an account of what you packed, so you can better itemize the contents as part of your report and claim.
  3. Leave enough time between connections. Ideally, you should allow between 1.5 and 2 hours so your bags have time to be loaded.
  4. Remove old barcodes and tags from previous flights.
  5. Check-in early so your bags have time to make it to your aircraft.
  6. Don’t overpack! Overstuffed bags are more likely to be damaged when loaded.
