What’s the Average Disruption Rate for AlbaStar Flights?

This privately-owned Spanish airline flies to 130 airports and has transported over 3 million passengers since 2010. That makes it a small airline (it only has 5 planes) but unfortunately, that doesn’t mean routes don’t appear on the AlbaStar flights delayed list.

AlbaStar is based primarily at 2 airports: Milan Malpensa and Palma de Mallorca. In August 2024 at Malpensa Airport, only 52.9% of flights arrived on time, and the cancellation rate was 0.8%. For AlbaStar specifically, only 37% of the company’s flights arrived on time in the same period.

In 2023, Palma de Mallorca Airport averaged an on-time rate of 67%. Passengers using Palma de Mallorca can experience a flight delay in over 3 out of every 10 flights.

To get a feel for the overall performance of European airlines, we used data from our study of the top European airlines. We learned that in 2023, the on-time and flight cancellation percentage of European airlines was 82.2% and 1.49%, respectively.

Why is Your AlbaStar Flight Cancelled?

When your flight appears on the AlbaStar flights cancelled list, there can be many different causes. Asking the airport or the airline is the ideal way to know for sure, as this helps determine extraordinary circumstances for AlbaStar complaints. That said, here are some of the most likely reasons:

  • Bad weather: Anything from thunderstorms to thick fog to large amounts of snowfall can make flying unsafe.
  • Aircraft issues: Planes may be unavailable due to extra maintenance or malfunctions.
  • Security concerns: Threats or risks at airports or aboard flights.
  • Air Traffic Control: Delays caused by congestion or strikes in air traffic management can land your route on the AlbaStar flights cancelled list.
  • Airport challenges: Equipment failure or overcrowding at the airport.
  • Staffing problems: Lack of necessary crew or strikes by AlbaStar employees.

Avoiding AlbaStar Disruptions - Tips From Our Experts

These steps can help you reduce the likelihood of your route appearing on the AlbaStar problems list:

  • Earlier flights are better: Flights earlier in the day tend to experience fewer delays since there is less air traffic. Additionally, disruptions can build up over a day, creating a domino effect.
  • Go direct: Fewer connections reduce the risk of delays due to cancelled or missed connecting flights.
  • Plan around the weather: Avoid booking flights in areas or seasons prone to severe weather conditions. Also, monitor the conditions as your flight approaches. If a bad storm or other event is forecasted, you may want to preemptively adjust your plans.
  • Check for strikes or airline issues: Before booking, ensure that there are no upcoming strikes or operational issues affecting AlbaStar.
  • Choose flexible fares: Booking tickets that are flexible or eligible for an AlbaStar flight refund can make it easier to switch flights if needed.
  • Avoid busy travel days: Plan trips on off-peak days to reduce the chances of encountering congested airports and therefore routes that end up on the AlbaStar flights delayed list.
  • Avoid routes with chronic disruptions: Use the list above to see which routes are delayed more often than normal. Find alternatives.

How Best To Manage AlbaStar Cancelled and Delayed Flights

  • Contact the airline immediately: Get in touch with AlbaStar’s customer service to rebook or inquire about alternatives as soon as possible. If they can’t help you, try other airlines and even other airports.
  • Know your rights: Familiarize yourself with Regulation EU261 as well as the airline’s policies. You may be entitled to a payout if your flight is delayed significantly or cancelled without enough notice.
  • Ask for a meal or hotel voucher: If the delay is long, request a meal or accommodation voucher from the airline.
  • Use travel insurance: If you have travel insurance, check if your policy covers instances when your flight is on the AlbaStar disruptions list.
  • Stay updated: Use our real-time AlbaStar delayed/cancelled flights list to monitor your flight status as things can change.
  • Keep receipts: If you incur expenses due to the delay or cancellation (meals, drinks, accommodation), keep all receipts for potential reimbursement later.
  • File a claim: Our flight compensation experts can help you make an AlbaStar complaint for up to €600. We’ve done so successfully in over {{count_reviews}} cases.
