Jet2 Check-in Made Easy: Your Step-by-Step Guide
Jet2 is a low-cost carrier famous for cheap fares and the occasional extreme day trip deal. But regardless of how much you pay for your flight or the length of your trip, Jet2 check-in is an absolute must!
In the summer of 2024, Jet2 implemented a new website travel alert section to ensure passengers have all the necessary info for check-in and airport arrival. It’s recommended that everyone checks this section at least 12 hours before departure to stay updated on Jet2 flight delays, cancellations, and any other issues.
Read on to find out all the juicy details regarding Jet2.com check-in, from online to in-person to Jet2holidays Resort check-in. Then, you’ll be ready for your next flight (after you finish packing, of course)!
Why is Jet2 Check-in Needed?
Most importantly, Jet2 check-in confirms that you’ll be travelling. No-shows for flights happen quite often, especially during busy travel periods, so when passengers don’t check in on time, it signals to Jet2 that they can give away their seats.
Aside from reducing the likelihood of getting bumped from the flight, the Jet2 check-in process accomplishes the following:
Receive Your Unique Boarding Pass
Source: Play Store
When you complete Jet2 check-in online or in person, you receive a boarding pass that’s a gateway to getting through the airport and onto the plane. It will be scanned at luggage drop off, security, and boarding.
Jet2 Seat Assignment and Selection
In general, if you don’t book seats on Jet2 flights, the airline will automatically assign you a seat when you check in. You can, though, opt for special seats, like those with extra legroom at check-in, and pay any additional charges.
Change or Add Checked Bags
Whether you’ve realized you inadvertently packed too much or forgot to add checked luggage when you booked the flight, you can add or update your hold luggage during check-in. You’ll need to pay any associated charges.

Jet2 Check-in Policy
A good rule is to complete the Jet2 check-in process as soon as possible. With Jet2, online check-in opens a full 28 days before the flight. Airport check-in counters are usually available 2.5 hours ahead of the departure time. Advantages of early check-in include:
- Better choice of premium seats.
- Online check-in avoids long airport queues.
- Decrease the odds of Jet2 bumping you from the flight because you confirmed early.
Jet2 Check-in Regulations at a Glance
- Photo ID: You’ll need a valid passport for every international flight, which includes the EU. It must be less than 10 years old and have a minimum of 3 months of validity from the date you return to the UK. Domestic flights require photo ID for all passengers aged 16 and above. If you don’t have a passport, a national ID, like a driving license or citizen card, is required.
- Check-in: How long you have to check in before a flight on Jet2 depends on your preferred method and varies between 6 hours and 40 minutes.
- Bag drop: The Jet2 check-in desks always close 40 minutes before departure, so you also need to drop your checked bags off within this timeframe, even if you’ve already checked in online.
- Gate arrival: While not set in stone, passengers should arrive at the boarding gate at least 30 minutes ahead of departure. This is the earliest stated time that the gate will close.
Jet2 Check-in Deadlines
- Online and the mobile app: For anyone doing Jet2 check-in online, you have from 28 days to 6 hours before the flight.
- Airport service desks: In-person, you can start the Jet2 check-in process 2.5 hours in advance of takeoff, and it must be completed no later than 40 minutes before departure, regardless of the queues at the airport.
- Twilight check-in: To take advantage of Twilight check-in with Jet2, you have to check in online at least 24 hours before your flight departs.
- Resort Flight check-in: For certain Jet2holidays flights, some passengers can use Resort Flight check-in. Your online check-in must be completed at least 72 hours before the flight to qualify.
Available Jet2 Check-in Methods
As a discount airline, you might wonder if you have to check in online with Jet2 or if you can do it at the airport instead. Luckily, Jet2 allows passengers to check in online and at the airport and also has services like Twilight and Resort Flight check-in to make things even easier.
Jet2 Online Check-in
Learning how to use Jet2 self-check-in online is a breeze. Simply locate your booking from the “Manage My Booking” page. Then, enter your booking reference, surname, and departure date. You can also just log in if you have an existing account. The system will pull up your itinerary and prompt you through the process. You’ll need to answer questions about:
- Banned or hazardous items.
- Whether or not you want to upgrade your seat.
- Adding or modifying hold luggage.
- Passport and ID information for international flights.
Provided you don’t run into any issues, completing Jet2 check-in online will leave you with a printable/downloadable boarding pass. Keep this somewhere safe as you can’t get through the airport or board the flight without it.
Jet2 Mobile Check-in
Frequent travellers may already have the Jet2 app installed, and if not, it’s available for both Apple and Android. It will have all your flights and information like flight status, flight countdowns, and your myJet2 account all within it. The check-in process once you pull up your applicable flight is essentially the same as with general online check-in, except the app will remember your travel documents to avoid this step.
Jet2 passengers can check in up to 8 people at a time using the mobile app. The app does not support boarding passes on smartwatches, so make sure you have another device handy.
Note that for both online and mobile app boarding passes, if you have trouble with the battery life on your device, you can get a printed boarding pass from any of the Jet2 check-in desks. There’s no charge for this service.
What To Do if Your Jet2 Online Check-in Doesn’t Work
Whether it’s a technical glitch or a user error, sometimes Jet2 online or app check-in just won’t work. If that’s the case, no need to worry. First, try the alternate method to see if that solves the problem. This means, if you tried checking in online, switch to the app and vice versa.
Some reasons you may not be able to check in online include:
- You’re trying to check in more than 8 people at once.
- You’re checking in too early.
- You’re checking in too late.
- You’re checking in for a flight from Turkey. The system will let you mostly check in, but you’ll need to visit a Jet2 desk at the airport to get your actual boarding pass.
Jet2 Airport Check-in
The good news is that Jet2 does not charge anything to check in at the airport - contrary to some other low-cost airlines. A downside to Jet2 airport check-in is the absence of self-service kiosks. If you’re planning to check in in person, you’ll always have to queue for the Jet2 counters.
Like the other methods already mentioned, Jet2 airport check-in will involve a pre-assigned seat if you haven’t already added one, and will require you to pay for any additional hold luggage. The service personnel will ask you the same questions about banned items and verify your travel documents.
Once complete, you’ll receive a paper boarding pass that needs to be kept somewhere handy but safe.
Jet2 Twilight Check-in
Can you drop the bags off the night before with Jet2? Absolutely, but only at certain airports. To take advantage of this service, you’ll need to check in 24 hours before flying using either the website or app. The window for this bag drop-off is between 16:30 and 21:00 the evening before the flight.
Then, all you need to take to the airport is your hand luggage, boarding pass, and passport!
When asked about this service, Jet2 CEO, Steve Heapy commented:
We have been inundated with requests from customers and independent travel agency partners wanting us to reintroduce our Free Resort Flight Check-in® service, and we know from that feedback how much everybody loves it. (...) By being luggage-free on the last day of their holiday, customers can enjoy their valuable holiday time, and breeze through the airport before their flight home.
To qualify, your flight the next day must depart before noon and must be from one of these airports:
- London Stansted
- Birmingham
- Manchester
- Liverpool
- Edinburgh
- Glasgow International
- Bristol
- East Midlands
- Leeds Bradford
- Newcastle
Perhaps the best things about this service are that it’s totally free and one person can drop off bags for up to 6 people. They’ll just need everyone’s passport and boarding pass to do the airport bag drop.
Note that Twilight is not available during the festive period if your UK flight departs on December 25th or 26th.
Jet2 Resort Flight Check-in
Like with Twilight, Resort Flight check-in with Jet2 aims to simplify check-in and bag drop and is totally free. But, it has a few of its own conditions.
- It’s currently only available in 2 areas of Cyprus - Paphos and Larnaca.
- Only certain resorts participate.
- It’s only provided during peak travel times, typically between April/May to October/November.
If you’re tired of dragging your luggage to the airport, make sure you check in online or via the app a minimum of 72 hours before the flight’s departure. Then, all you have to do is drop your checked bags off the morning of your flight with the Jet2holidays team right at your hotel.
Manage a Booking with Jet2
Much like accessing your reservation to check in online, you can manage your Jet2 booking by either logging in or locating your booking with the same information. This is where you can make changes to pretty much everything about your flight, including:
- Add checked bags
- Choose your seat

Timing Your Airport Arrival for Jet2 Flights
Wondering how early you need to get to the airport for your Jet2 flight? In general, the airline recommends arriving at least 2 hours in advance of departure. This should allow you enough time to check in (if you haven’t already done so online), drop bags, get through security, and make it to the gate.
Remember that you need to be at the gate and ready to board the flight no less than 30 minutes before the flight is set to leave.
You’re Late for Jet2 Check-in, What Now?
The good thing about being late checking in online is that you have a second chance to do it at the airport. So, if you miss the 6-hour deadline for online or app Jet2 check-in, just get to the airport in plenty of time to do in-person check-in instead.
Alternatively, if you’re at the airport with less than 40 minutes to spare before the flight is due to take off and you haven’t checked in, you could be out of luck. It’s likely that you won’t get on the flight and will have to make alternate arrangements.
That said, if you are late to the airport, always still attempt to check in and alert the ground staff as soon as you arrive. Your flight could have been delayed, and if you check in quickly, you may still be able to make it to the boarding gate on time.
Top Tips for a Smooth Jet2 Check-in and Flight Experience
- Check-in online early: Jet2 lets you check in online up to 28 days before your flight, so don’t wait until the last minute. Completing your online check-in early ensures you secure your ideal seat, avoids last-minute stress, and lets you focus on packing and travel arrangements.
- Double-check travel documents: Verify that your passport is valid for your destination country’s requirements, often at least 3 months beyond your return date. Sort out any visas in advance and note that some destinations may also require proof of onward travel or accommodation bookings.
- Use the Jet2 app: Download the Jet2 app before your journey for a more streamlined travel day. It provides instant access to your boarding pass, real-time flight updates, and gate information. Save your boarding pass offline, just in case you encounter connectivity issues at the airport. Then, you can go completely paperless!
- Review baggage allowances: Jet2 has specific rules for checked and hand luggage. Double-check weight limits and dimensions before you leave for the airport. Pre-book any extra baggage online to save on fees at the airport and to avoid delays at check-in counters. Note that the maximum weight of any bag is 22kg to avoid overage charges.
- Keep essentials handy: Have your passport, boarding pass, and any required travel documents easily accessible in your hand luggage to prevent delays when asked for them.
- Pre-order in-flight extras: If you’re planning to enjoy meals or duty-free items, pre-ordering can save money and guarantee availability.
