Airline strikes tend to correspond with busy travel seasons. So, if you’ve booked a Jet2 flight for summer or winter holiday, then it’s a good idea to understand your rights just in case a strike is threatened or takes place.
Fortunately, Jet2 isn’t known for its labour disputes, but in this guide, we’ll explain your passenger rights, what you’re entitled to, and how to prepare for work stoppages that could affect your travel plans.
As a Jet2 passenger, you have certain rights that are protected by Regulation UK261. This set of rules requires airlines to act in certain ways when your flight is interrupted due to an employee strike.
Specifically, the rules state that should your flight be delayed or cancelled because of an airline strike, you must receive up to £520 if you arrive 3 or more hours late at your final destination.
Jet2 should help you in other ways if your flight is affected.
First, they must keep you notified and up-to-date about the strike situation. As well, Jet2 must also do the following when your flight is delayed or cancelled.
Cancelled Flights
If your flight is cancelled because of the strike, Jet2 must give you the option of a refund or a rebooking at the earliest convenience, and at no extra cost.
Delayed Flights
If a Jet2 strike causes a delay that forces you to wait a minimum of 2 hours at the airport, then you must be offered food and refreshments. For extensive delays that last until the next day, you must be given access to a hotel and transportation there and back to the airport.
If you purchase any essentials out-of-pocket, keep your receipts to submit for reimbursement.
Getting payment from the airline for delays and cancellations caused by a strike depends on who called it. If the strike was called and carried out by Jet2 employees then you could be eligible for compensation.
On the other hand, if Jet2 flights have been affected by strikes called by other sectors or third parties like air traffic control and airport employees, you will not be eligible for compensation. This is because Jet2 has no control over these kinds of events, so they are considered an extraordinary circumstance.

If you’ve heard that a Jet2 strike has been called for the dates you plan to travel, then you’re probably wondering if you can make changes to your booking. The good news is that usually airlines will allow passengers to make changes to their otherwise non-refundable or no-change ticket when an employee strike is on the horizon.
If you have a refundable ticket, then you can make changes as per the specific policies of the booking.
For non-refundable tickets, you should check on the Jet2 website to see if they will allow you some flexibility for changes. If you don’t see any information there, then contact Jet2 to ask a representative to help you.
If you find out that you can’t make changes or cancel without a fee, then wait until Jet2 cancels the flight. This way you will have the option of a refund or a rebooking free of charge, and you can seek compensation.

While Jet2 passengers have had to endure flight disruptions from air traffic control or airport related strikes, they haven’t had any Jet2 employee strikes. This could mean that they are due for a labour dispute at some point, but in truth, it’s impossible to say if or when the airline will see a work stoppage in the near future.
