Even though JetBlue employees haven’t had a strike in recent years, there is always the potential for one happening suddenly and disrupting flights, so it’s smart to review JetBlue strike compensation rules before you travel. As a U.S.-based airline, JetBlue isn’t required to compensate you, but if your flight from Europe or the UK is affected you could get compensated. Either way, the airline is required to help you get to your final destination when a strike gets in the way of your trip, wherever you happen to be flying.

So, in this guide, we’re going to explain what you’re entitled to as a JetBlue passenger, including when you may qualify for JetBlue airline strike compensation, and how the airline must support you during a strike, and steps you can take to prepare for and manage any flight disruptions.

Your Passenger Rights During a Strike

JetBlue is an American airline which means that it must follow the rules of the U.S. DOT. But when flying from Europe or the UK, they must comply with those local regulations.

Based on the air passenger rights laws in the EU and UK, JetBlue must provide care and assistance as well as compensation for JetBlue strike delays and cancellations if you have a flight disruption caused by a JetBlue employee strike.

If you’re affected by a strike in the U.S., the airline will help you get to your final destination with a replacement flight or give you a refund if your flight is cancelled. However, you won't get the JetBlue strike compensation in most cases.

Will JetBlue Assist You During a Strike?

When flights are disrupted due to a JetBlue employee strike, the airline will help you, but how much they assist depends on where you’re travelling.

Cancelled Flights

In the US, UK, EU, you can choose between a full refund or rebooking on the next available flight at no extra cost if your flight is cancelled because of a strike. It doesn’t matter who calls the strike, you are still entitled to these choices.

If you’re departing from the EU or UK and your flight is cancelled at the last minute because of the strike, JetBlue must provide care and assistance, meaning they must give you food and drink vouchers if you’re forced to wait at least 2 hours for your new flight, and overnight accommodation if you have to wait overnight. Importantly, this will only be provided if JetBlue employees go on strike.

Delayed Flights

  • If you’re delayed at the airport for 2+ hours on a flight from the EU or UK, JetBlue must provide meals and refreshments.
  • For overnight delays in the EU or UK, they must arrange hotel accommodation and transportation to/from the airport.
  • If you’re delayed in the US because of a strike, JetBlue will not assist you except to ensure you get to your destination.
  • For long strike-related delays of 3 hours or more on domestic flights and 6+ hours on international flights, you are eligible for a refund or a rebooking.

Understanding Compensation for Strike-Related Disruptions

If you’re on a JetBlue flight departing from Europe or the UK, and your flight is disrupted because of a JetBlue employee strike, you could get financial compensation by filing a JetBlue EU/UK strike compensation claim.

In the US, airlines are not required to compensate passengers for flight disruptions. So if you have a strike-related JetBlue delay, you will only get a replacement flight to your destination or a refund if your flight is cancelled.

How to Modify Your JetBlue Booking During a Strike

If a JetBlue strike has been announced for your travel dates, you may want to change your plans or check your potential JetBlue strike refund and compensation options. Here’s what you need to know.

  • Refundable tickets can be changed without extra charge as usual.
  • If you have a non-refundable ticket, JetBlue might waive change fees during strikes. Check the JetBlue website or contact their customer service team to confirm this.
tip

If you have a non-refundable ticket and a strike has been announced, you can also wait for them to cancel your flight. By doing this, you can avoid fees and get a free rebooking or a refund instead.

Preparing for a Potential JetBlue Strike

  • Stay Updated: Download the JetBlue app and sign up for SMS or email alerts.
  • Travel Insurance: Review your policy to see if it covers strike-related disruptions.
  • Understand Your Ticket Details: Check if you can make changes or cancellations without penalty.
  • Pack Essentials: Keep medications, chargers, and toiletries in your carry-on in case of extended airport waits.
