Compensation for Tunisair Delays

So, if your Tunisair flight is delayed, you can expect care and assistance as well as cash compensation in some circumstances.

Tunisair delays that last 2 hours, for example, mean that you must be given food and refreshment coupons. The longer you’re delayed, the more coupons you’re entitled to. You’re also entitled to 2 free phone calls or emails. If these things aren’t offered, don’t be afraid to ask.

If your delay extends to the next day then Tunisair must provide an overnight hotel stay and arrange transportation there and back if you can’t get a shuttle.

tip

Always keep receipts for anything you had to buy because of the delay. You can send these in with your claim for reimbursement.

If the delay is 5 hours or longer, Tunisair will give you the option of a refund or a new flight to your destination. You can also get a flight back to your original point of departure if you cancel your plans and go back home.

Take these steps when you have a delayed flight

  1. Ask an agent what led to the delay. You’ll need this info to have a successful claim!
  2. Collect supporting evidence including photos of the weather at the airport or screenshots of the delay notification.
  3. Save receipts for out-of-pocket purchases for essentials.

Tunisair Cancelled Flight Compensation

If Tunisair cancels a flight scheduled to depart from an EU airport, then you can expect a rebooking or a refund. Cash compensation is also possible, but it depends on how early the flight was cancelled.

warning

If you get notice of the cancellation 2 weeks or more before departure, you will not be eligible for financial compensation.

If Tunisair cancelled your flight less than 2 weeks before departure, then you are eligible for financial compensation as long as the issue causing the disruption could have been prevented by Tunisair, and not caused by extraordinary circumstances like air traffic control restrictions or an airport strike.

Compensation for Missed Connections

Whenever you miss a connecting flight because of an earlier Tunisair flight disruption, you’ll get a rebooking or a refund as well as a ticket back to your point of departure if you decide to scrap your travel plans. You might also get cash compensation if all the flights were on the same booking and Tunisair is to blame for the initial disruption.

When You’re Denied Boarding

While it’s rare, some Tunisair flights will be oversold, meaning that you could be denied boarding. If this happens to you, you’ll again be given the choice of an alternate flight or a refund, as well as cash compensation.

Tunisair Compensation Amounts

Flight compensation is based on the length of your delay. As long as you arrive 3 or more hours past the scheduled arrival time, you could be eligible for cash compensation. The amount you receive is based on the distance of your flight.

Flights over 3,500km

*Tunisair might try to reduce this amount by as much as 50%, but AirAdvisor always works to get the full amount.

Passenger Rights in the EU & UK

In the European Union, you’re protected by Regulation EC 261/2004, while in the United Kingdom, a nearly identical set of passenger rights regulations called UK261 will go into effect. All the entitlements we’ve discussed here are enforced by these laws.

Is Compensation Guaranteed?

You can only get financial compensation if the flight disruption was preventable. So, if Tunisair is unable to avoid the situation leading to the disruption, you won’t get cash repayment. Some situations that are beyond the airline’s control are civil unrest, airport issues, and dangerous weather events.
