Awful!!!! Never book with United

Literally the absolute worst flying experience of my life, and likewise for those I flew with. Spent over 30 hours trying to make it to Chicago from North Carolina, directly. The first day our flight attempt got delayed 5 times, then cancelled, then they refused to compensate us in any way. So we were left paying for all hotel and inconvenience costs. Thankfully, we were able to rebook, so we were somewhat more understanding. Until this morning rolls around, and our flight gets delayed another 3 times. It finally took off a few hours later, but then they diverted us to Indianapolis, kept us on the plane for 2 hours standstill, and then once they let us off, refused to give any of our checked bags because they were trying to have it to where we were able to fly to Chicago with them. Mind you—at this point, the flight had only 30 minutes left. Nonetheless, we were stuck in the airport for around 5 hours waiting, when we would’ve rather just taken a rental, but they again refused to give luggage, all for them to end up cancelling our flight after 9 pm. This was also frustrating because other United flights from previous destinations were making it and boarding to Chicago. It then took them well over an hour to drop our bags off, which were soaking wet, and they then told us all they could offer us were food vouchers, while we had to figure out a 3 hour uber ride to Chicago since we had no choice but to get there at some point tonight. I understand weather to an extent, but the whole airline handled it so badly, and weren’t honest with us at any point and just kept telling us to wait; as well as not compensating adequately whatsoever. As I’m typing this on the uber, we’re coming up on hour 32 of trying to make it to Chicago, which was a less than 3 hour flight originally, and our entire 4th of July trip was spent in the airports. Please never book with United, as I won’t ever be again.

United Airlines Delays, Baggage Moved Without Us, and Impossible-to-Get-Help

We spent two days at the airport due to delay after delay. Our flight was ultimately cancelled, and we were told to return the next day—but we were not rebooked, and there were no available flights to take us to our destination. Meanwhile, our bags were transported to the destination, even though we were not. Now we’re having difficulty obtaining a refund. We’ve only flown United twice in recent years, and the experience has been similarly frustrating both times. We will not be flying United again.

United Took Suprisingly Good Care of Me

I know that people often have problems with big companies, but sometimes that is due to the size of an operation having some bad apples in the bunch or unreasonable customers. I had a great experience with United personally and so have family members. United did a wonderful job when my connection fell through. The flight from Springfield, MO to Denver was delayed due to weather in Denver, and so I missed my flight from Denver to Redmond. United gave me an option to get a free ticket for the next day. After agreeing to that, I then came back and asked if we could rebook to another airport instead. They went ahead and redid my flight again - for free! They also gave me a free hotel stay in a nice hotel in downtown Denver, as well as free travel to and from the hotel to the airport and two meal vouchers!

Overall

Denied boarding

Horrible customer service. I can’t get any assistance from them. Their customer service has gone way downhill , lounges serve trash food (I have an Infinity card, which United charges me $700 a year to have unlimited lounge visits.

United Refunded My Money to Someone Else

Warning to everyone booking airline tickets online: I recently lost about $23,000 while trying to purchase group Turkish Airlines tickets for friends. I found two phone numbers online that appeared legitimate and completed the purchase through them. Everything initially looked real, but weeks later I still had no confirmation numbers, and the agent disappeared. After disputing the charges with American Express, I learned the charges were actually processed through United Airlines — not Turkish Airlines as I believed. Although refunds were reportedly issued as electronic travel certificates, they were redeemed by someone else, not me. In the end, neither the airline nor the credit card company accepted responsibility. Don't know why United refunded my money to someone else instead of returning the money to mu credit card. Please be extremely careful when booking flights by phone or through online search results. Always verify you are dealing directly with the airline’s official website or customer service. I’m sharing this simply to warn others so they do not become victims of similar scams. Stay safe and God bless.

Denied boarding

We were not treated as people, rather an inconvenience to their time. Flight desk agents in SFO were more interested in visiting with each other than helping customers. The stewards on the flight were impolite and harried. I will go out of my way to avoid UA in the future

Flight was delayed 2 hours because they sub out their mechanic work and had to wait., not weather related it was a beautiful day outside. Just to reload on to same plane. Almost everyone Mussed connecting flights. Offered a poor hotel room, and $15 for food lol. What a joke this airline is .
