Poor experience with this airline

Worst flight experience. They cancelled the first flight and pushed me into another flight that was delayed throughout the night and proceeded to bait us ALL NIGHT, moved gates twice and finally cancelled this flight as well with 0 alternate flights provided. Absolutely poor communication and I will do everything I can to avoid them in the future.

BY FAR THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER, I WISH YOU GO TO BANKRUPTCY

OMG—where do I even begin? What was supposed to be a simple 9-hour flight from Frankfurt to Chicago turned into a 3-day nightmare of incompetence, silence, and straight-up disrespect. Oslo to Frankfurt? Flawless. After that, everything collapsed. We reached Chicago airspace… and then spent an hour circling like no one knew what they were doing. No explanation. No updates. Nothing. Then suddenly, the screens switch to Detroit. That’s how we find out we’re being diverted—through a screen. When people finally asked, the answer? “Refueling.” Mid-flight diversion, and that’s the best you’ve got? We land in Detroit nearly 2 hours late—still no communication. Then we sit. And sit. And sit. Three hours on the plane, being fed the same empty promise: “We’ll depart soon.” Next announcement? Not departure. Not clarity. Just vague nonsense about a “gate connection.” Confusion everywhere, zero answers. Then as we’re deplaning—boom. Notification: flight canceled. Reason? Crew ran out of legal flying hours. So this entire disaster was predictable—and still completely mismanaged. It gets worse. We’re pushed through customs and then left waiting 2 hours for luggage because the airport apparently isn’t equipped to handle international arrivals. How is that even possible? Finally reach United customer service—only to be met with rudeness and indifference. No hotel. No assistance. No accountability. Just “come back in the morning.” So at 4AM, exhausted and stranded, most of us end up sleeping on the airport floor like we’re invisible. Morning comes. New day, same chaos. No gate info. No updates. Staff literally telling us to “walk around and figure it out.” Eventually we’re told to go to gate D9. So we wait. 11:45 passes—nothing. Then: “We’re waiting for pilots.” Hours go by. Pilots arrive. Then suddenly—new excuses. Missing crew. Missing parts. Constant lies, constant delays. At 6PM—after another full day of this circus—we finally board. And the luggage? We were told it was already on the plane. That was a lie too. Mid-flight, we’re informed it’ll arrive on a different aircraft—because they “didn’t have equipment” to load it earlier. We land in Chicago. Guess what? Luggage plane hasn’t even left yet. Another 5-hour wait at O’Hare. I finally get my bag at 1AM Tuesday. So a “no-brainer” 9-hour flight that should’ve ended Sunday afternoon dragged into Tuesday morning—complete with lost hotel night, wasted car rental, zero compensation, and a complete lack of basic human decency. This wasn’t just bad service. This was systemic failure at every single step. Easily the worst travel experience I’ve ever had. Do better—or don’t exist.

Flight cancellation

They canceled my flight from Tokyo to Orlando while I was in Tokyo airport, less than 2 hours from my flight. Next available flight home out of that airport would be 2 days later. Left me stranded over 7000 miles from home and offered me $175 in compensation.

Denied boarding

I was disappointed how my baggage was handled. Several text between myself and United Airlines until I finally receive my luggage on 8 Jan 2026. All of my wife's medicines were in that delayed luggage together with my outfit and her outfit for the 50th wedding anniversary of her sister. The desperation, anxiety, and the unnecessary inconvenience on our part was unacceptable. All of my wife's medicines were in that delayed luggage. She was unable to take her medications.

Flight delay

I did not have a good experience with a flight attendant in Philadelphia when my flight was delayed. Instead of trying to help me get on the next flight to my final destination, she booked me on the next day flight when there was another flight available from Denver to Honolulu. I had to rush to talk with another flight attendant as soon as I arrived Denver to see if I can catch on the next flight and they were able to get me on stand by for this. However the flight attendant in Philly did not help me with this. She made it worse and stressful for me to figure out my connecting flight plan. Horrible experience. I’ve been flying with United for years but this one is the worse experience I’ve ever had.

I missed out on a whole day of my visit to Bulgaria

My plane arrived a little late and I received an email stating "We have rebooked you, as your flight cannot take place as schedule." I arrived about ten hours if not more late to my final destination. I had to sit in the airport for ten hours, I had to buy my own food, and sleep on some chairs. My girlfriend had one day off of work and that was the day I was supposed to arrive. Because I was booked for the next day I missed out on going places with her.

The only extra care provided on board was water, which we were told was limited

The flight was scheduled to depart Frankfurt at 11:05am on January 17 2022. The airline informed me a few hours before that the flight had been delayed 1 hour because of an earlier delay that impacted the aircraft’s arrival at Frankfurt. Boarding took place around one hour after the original scheduled boarding and we were set to take off at the new departure time 12:10pm. Right before boarding started at the gate we were informed via text message (no information at the gate) that a maintenance team needs to replace a tire before departure. Once onboard the aircraft, the captain announced that the tire is being replaced and the new departure time is 12:40pm. This is the first time the text message mentioned rebooking was possible. All passengers were already on the plane and boarding had been completed about an hour prior. The plane departed 3:08pm, 4 hours and 3 minutes late. It was originally scheduled to arrive 1:35pm local Newark time but it arrived 5:26pm, 3 hours and 51 minutes late.

ACCOMODATING CUSTOMER SERVICE

I would like to commend Ms. Brown of United Airlines for her exceptional assistance with a rebooking case. A passenger bound for Iwakuni contacted ANA an hour before departure, but due to system limitations, I could not uncheck her status before the flight left, risking a no-show. I reached out to United for confirmation, and Ms. Brown immediately understood the urgency. She assured me rebooking was still possible and went above expectations by holding the nearest available flight and patiently staying on the line while I coordinated with the passenger. Honestly, it's rare to encounter someone who takes ownership of their responsibilities to such an extent and delivers service with such grace and professionalism. With that being said, I’m so much grateful she made a significant difference that brought confidence to both me and the passenger. I believe this kind of exemplary service deserves to be celebrated, and I hope that her efforts will be recognized accordingly. - ANA REP (Dani)
