Brussels Airlines Flight Refund policy
A flight compensation and a refund are two different things. Regulations allow you to receive both: a cancellation refund and compensation.
In case of a cancellation, an airline will try to re-book you on the similar flight, but if that becomes impossible, a cancellation refund will be a full cash refund. Generally, your claim would succeed, providing there were no extraordinary circumstances beyond airline control.
If Brussels Airlines cancels your flight to extraordinary circumstances (such as Covid travel restrictions or a serious illness) and you were offered no replacement flight, you can obtain a ticket refund in full, since your flights booked were not available.
Types of ticket refunds: A full refund must be in cash or credit. Vouchers are allowed only if you specifically agree to it. We do not recommend accepting vouchers due to short expiry dates and potential restrictions on redemption.

By e-mail of 20. April 2024 14:25, I was asked by Brussels to check-in my hand luggage. I tried to do so but the machine denied (software error of OS, code for free hand luggage check-in in case of full flight is not updated, only visible in the system for check-in - special services. The responsible gate keeper (Indian migration background, about 55 years, overweight, giving name was refused) and his supervisor (Arabic migration background, about 60 years old, overweight, giving name was refused) did not know this problem and refused to accept my expertise and blocked access to "special services". Both refused to speak with me, one called me a racist because I told him that he may not understand my quite developed German). The supervisor on duty in check-in (women, about 30 years old, long hair, black) reprimanded me and call airport police, refused to discuss the case, airport police waited in full gear (with machine guns) about 5 members in proximity. Then 2 manager appeared (one gave his name, Mr. Macher) were also not really helpful, did not know the problem, did not believe my story, no apologies for the impossible behaviour of the staff) but reluctantly and "ex gratia" accepted that the quite helpful check-in service person (women, about 30 years old, very supportive and helpful) could fulfill this task asked by Brussels airline and costing me additional time for check-in but also recovery. I may note that I have catched a cold and had a bad back this day, thus, I really wanted to go to the lounge). If I would not have left Mr. Macher, then he may have argued again with me, maybe forever, fully aware that a police group is very close and arrest me on very short notice with a simple code word. As Brussels may tell, it was impossible to dispose the luggage in the cabin, thus, it had to be checked in at the gate, causing delays. I may note that the luggage was bigger than usual as many Marathon runners were heading to BRU. Was I got from OS/AUA: a delay of about 20 minutes verbal and physical threats refusals of service libel as racist etc. "Service is our success" - maybe it was true some time ago. Now, it is the challenge of OS/AUA. Very serious defaults and this is not the only one. I think that a compensation is justified, as the ex gratia offer by myself (without speaking with may lawyers) is € 5000. I arrived at my destination morr than 21 hours later. Initially i was landing on 2nd February at 02:20 o'clock in night but due to flight cancellation i reached Mumbai on 3rd February at 00:20 o'clock mid night. Airline cancelled my trip only one day before my departure due to announced strike The main inconvenience was reaching my destination so late!
- strike at the airport - airline did not offer refund but rebooked me directly - rebooked flight was unreasonably long (i.e. following day Berlin-London-Brussels instead of direct Berlin- Brussels. Therefore the rebooking was changed to an additional day later as otherwise I would lose.a full working day in transport. I total it incurred costs for two additional nights of hotel (2xEUR 108) + subsistence.
