Egyptair Compensation for Flight Cancellations and Delays
In 2022, Egyptair was number 95 in Skytrax’s top 100 airlines rankings, but in 2023 the airline didn’t make the cut. While many factors contribute to a low ranking, punctuality is always a major component in how airlines are rated. So, in this article, we’re going to focus on Egyptair’s flight disruptions and when you can get compensation for a delayed or cancelled flight.

Egyptair Passenger Rights
Whenever you take an Egyptair flight that departs from an EU or UK airport, you will be protected by the laws of these regions.
The specific regulations we’re referring to are EU261 and UK261. Practically identical, these sets of rules will protect you in the case of flight disruptions including flight delays, cancellations, and denied boarding. The amount of compensation you get will depend upon the distance of your Egyptair flight and the amount of time you are delayed.
Another factor that determines compensation is culpability. If the airline is to blame for disrupted flight, then you may be eligible for compensation. Otherwise, you can still expect:
- A refund
- A rescheduled flight
- Care and assistance

Egyptair Flight Delay Compensation
Flight delay compensation is owed to passengers who experience a delay of 3 or more hours at their final destination. The exception to this EU and UK rule is if the delay was caused by extraordinary circumstances, in which case you will not be eligible for cash compensation. Care and assistance should still be offered to you however, even if external factors caused the delay.

Egyptair Cancelled Flight Compensation
Egyptair is required to pay you flight cancellation compensation when:
- You were informed less than 2 weeks before departure and
- When the cancellation was the airline’s fault
At the same time, you can always expect to be offered a choice of a refund or a rebooked flight. Regulations also require the airline to provide you with care and assistance if you choose an alternate flight that makes you wait at the airport. If you have a delay until the following day, then you should also be offered an overnight hotel stay and transport to and from the accommodation.

Egyptair Refunds
Anytime you have a cancelled flight with Egyptair that was scheduled to depart from an EU or UK airport, you should be offered a refund. Similarly, if you encounter a delay that exceeds 5 hours, then you are also entitled to a refund. Remember, you could still be able to get cash compensation from Egyptair in addition to your refund!
Denied Boarding & Missed Connections
Denied boarding and missed connections are both situations covered by EU and UK regulations. If you’re denied boarding from an oversold flight or if you missed your connecting flight because of an earlier Egyptair flight disruption, then you could be eligible for compensation in addition to any care and assistance, refund, or rebooking.
Egyptair Compensation: How Much Can You Get
The precise amount of compensation you receive is decided based on the amount of time you were delayed at your final destination and the total distance of your affected flight. The following table will give you a better idea of what to expect.
Egyptair Compensation

Flights under 1,500km | Flights between 1,500-3,500km | Flights over 3,500km

People Also Ask
Are Egyptair vouchers as good as a refund? Should you accept them if they’re offered?
If you’re offered a voucher, be sure to read the fine print and understand the details of what you’re accepting. Each airline has their own policies, but sometimes vouchers can eliminate your chances of claiming compensation. They also tend to have prohibitive restrictions with short expiry dates. Bottom line, be careful about vouchers.
How can you tell what caused an Egyptair flight to be cancelled?
The first thing you should do is ask the airline staff for information. You can also check other flights in the airport to see if there is a bigger, airport-related issue at play. You can also check this article all about how to determine the causes of flight cancellations.
What do you do if Egyptair loses your baggage?
If your baggage is missing, the first thing you should do is file a report before you leave the airport. They will give you a tracking number so you can follow the status of your luggage. You can also learn how much baggage compensation you can receive in this article about baggage mishandling.

I am writing regarding the delay of flight number MS 780 from Lonon ((Heathrow) to Cairo (Cairo int'l) on the 7th of December, 2024, causing inconvenience and disruptions to my travel plans. Our flight was scheduled to take-off at 22:30, we have done the boarding, security checks, were directed to the gate, waiting for the plane, that was announced to be delayed, until they announced that it was cancelled due to bad weather conditions. We were asked to go all the way back again from the gate to the luggage area, we were handled our languages, left with no answers to our questions, no exact date to our next flight, no hotel compensation to stay in, I slept that night with all my stuff on a chair in Nero cafe, refusing to leave the airport, concerned to miss any announced flight, when at 6:30 am (the next day) the cafe's staff started yelling to wake us up (this was so hamulating), at 9:00 am some of the airport staff came to tell us that there is a flight taking-off at 11:00, we went all through the process once again of boarding and security checks, left with no information about the gate, but some of Egyptair staff told us it is the same gate as yesterday's to discover the gate was in another totally different zone, they finally announced the gate at around 13:00, the plane took-off at around 14:30 (a total delay of 16 hours, with no compensation, but for a £14 voucher to buy a sandwich from one of the airport’s cafes!!). This was the worst flight I've ever seen, I am still suffering from neck and back pains Accordingly, I am requesting a compensation as per the compensation policy of the company and as per the int'l aviation and airports laws, taking into consideration the very short notice, the long hours of delay and especially that we were no offered a hotel to stay in and we spent a horrible night at the airport
I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding a series of issues we experienced with Egypt Air, particularly concerning flights MS778 and MS779. Flight MS778 Disruption: Our flight, MS778 on 17Aug’24, was significantly disrupted due to an aircraft change, and we were offloaded without any prior notification. This caused substantial inconvenience, and no alternative arrangements were communicated in a timely manner. Staff Behavior at London Check-in Counter: The behavior of your staff at the London check-in counter (Counter A25) was unprofessional and rude and refused to check in my luggage due to a technical issue with my ticket as he stated and he threatened me in front of my family that he will call security for me , a complaint was raised to the station Cabin same day. Their lack of assistance and dismissive attitude exacerbated an already frustrating situation. Unsuitable Hotel Accommodation: The hotel provided to us as compensation for the flight disruption was not suitable. It did not meet the basic standards of comfort, which added to our discomfort. Entertainment System on MS779: On our return flight, MS779 from Cairo to London on August 9th, the in-flight entertainment system was not functioning, further diminishing our travel experience. Given the nature of these disruptions and poor service, I kindly request that Egypt Air addresses these issues and offers appropriate compensation for the inconvenience caused. We expect a prompt response to ensure that such issues are rectified and prevented in the future. Our ticket no and Booking details records are foolwing. 1.1MOHAMED/MAI MRS 2.1ABOUTALEB/OMAR MR 3.1ABOUTALEB/ZAIN MSTR*P-C09 DOB 26AUG15 Pnr: NNJKJL Tkno’s# 0775407251043-44-45 Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I look forward to your prompt resolution.
