Egyptair Compensation for Flight Cancellations and Delays
In 2022, Egyptair was number 95 in Skytrax’s top 100 airlines rankings, but in 2023 the airline didn’t make the cut. While many factors contribute to a low ranking, punctuality is always a major component in how airlines are rated. So, in this article, we’re going to focus on Egyptair’s flight disruptions and when you can get compensation for a delayed or cancelled flight.

Egyptair Passenger Rights
Whenever you take an Egyptair flight that departs from an EU or UK airport, you will be protected by the laws of these regions.
The specific regulations we’re referring to are EU261 and UK261. Practically identical, these sets of rules will protect you in the case of flight disruptions including flight delays, cancellations, and denied boarding. The amount of compensation you get will depend upon the distance of your Egyptair flight and the amount of time you are delayed.
Another factor that determines compensation is culpability. If the airline is to blame for disrupted flight, then you may be eligible for compensation. Otherwise, you can still expect:
- A refund
- A rescheduled flight
- Care and assistance

Egyptair Flight Delay Compensation
Flight delay compensation is owed to passengers who experience a delay of 3 or more hours at their final destination. The exception to this EU and UK rule is if the delay was caused by extraordinary circumstances, in which case you will not be eligible for cash compensation. Care and assistance should still be offered to you however, even if external factors caused the delay.

Egyptair Cancelled Flight Compensation
Egyptair is required to pay you flight cancellation compensation when:
- You were informed less than 2 weeks before departure and
- When the cancellation was the airline’s fault
At the same time, you can always expect to be offered a choice of a refund or a rebooked flight. Regulations also require the airline to provide you with care and assistance if you choose an alternate flight that makes you wait at the airport. If you have a delay until the following day, then you should also be offered an overnight hotel stay and transport to and from the accommodation.

Egyptair Refunds
Anytime you have a cancelled flight with Egyptair that was scheduled to depart from an EU or UK airport, you should be offered a refund. Similarly, if you encounter a delay that exceeds 5 hours, then you are also entitled to a refund. Remember, you could still be able to get cash compensation from Egyptair in addition to your refund!
Denied Boarding & Missed Connections
Denied boarding and missed connections are both situations covered by EU and UK regulations. If you’re denied boarding from an oversold flight or if you missed your connecting flight because of an earlier Egyptair flight disruption, then you could be eligible for compensation in addition to any care and assistance, refund, or rebooking.

People Also Ask
Are Egyptair vouchers as good as a refund? Should you accept them if they’re offered?
If you’re offered a voucher, be sure to read the fine print and understand the details of what you’re accepting. Each airline has their own policies, but sometimes vouchers can eliminate your chances of claiming compensation. They also tend to have prohibitive restrictions with short expiry dates. Bottom line, be careful about vouchers.
How can you tell what caused an Egyptair flight to be cancelled?
The first thing you should do is ask the airline staff for information. You can also check other flights in the airport to see if there is a bigger, airport-related issue at play. You can also check this article all about how to determine the causes of flight cancellations.

i first sent them a email written in mandarin, they answered very quickly, asking for an English mail because they can't read. So I sent another English email writing directly what I claimed in the Mandarin one, this time they kept silent for a whole week. Tricky.
We (a group of 4 persons) were supposed to follow this itinerary: - Flight MS 758 from Amsterdam at 9 Aug, 15:40, to arrive in Cairo at 9 Aug, 20:05 - Flight MS 839 from Cairo at 9 Aug, 23:10 to arrive in Johannesburg at 10 Aug, 07:10 Instead, this is what happened: - While waiting for check-in in Amsterdam, a delay was announced of 2:30 minutes, which increased little by little to 3:30, causing flight MS 758 to land at around 23:30 local time. - We missed the connecting flight to Johannesburg. - After asking for information for a couple of hours at the Egyptair help desk, Egyptair offered us another itinerary through Istanbul that would leave the next day. At 1:15 in the morning (by now August 10th) the local personnel asked for our passports, which they would keep while we were to sleep in a nearby hotel. We waited until 3:30 before a bus took us to this hotel. - At around 10:30 (August 10) we took a bus again to the airport, where we waited for them to give us our passports and boarding passes for the flights to Istanbul, and then to Johannesburg. During the night, we received email confirmation of wrong flights (to Nairobi), without anything was mentioned about this possibility. This caused confusion and anxiety regarding our flights, and where our luggage would end up. - Flight MS 735 from Cairo at 10 Aug, 14:20 to arrive in Istanbul at 10 Aug, 17:35 - Flight from Istanbul at 11 Aug, around 01:00 to arrive in Johannesburg at 11 Aug, around 08:00. We do not have the specific flight details because we did not receive these boarding passes digitally. The total delay when arriving in Johannesburg was approximately 1 day and 1 hour, causing us to lose one full vacation day. Money lost due to the delay: - Expenses at Istanbul airport while waiting for connecting flight, ca. EUR 25pp = EUR 100 - One day of rented car (EUR 749,96/5 = EUR 149.99) - Cost of stay at Sabie hotel on evening of August 10: 2475 ZAR = EUR 142,62 - Total: EUR 392.61 Next to losing money, we had a very unpleasant experience. We were given little information in Cairo while they were arranging a new itinerary: we only received the wrong boarding passes before being sent to the hotel without our passports and thus had no details about the new flight. Furthermore, we had to rearrange a part of our trip. Consequently, we had to skip a day of visiting the Kruger Park. For all inconvenience and stress, we would like to receive a reasonable, additional compensation.
Hi, I had a flight from Cairo to Amsterdam on 8th October. First there was delaying, we could see them trying to fix something on the turbines and then after 4 hours they finally cancelled the flight. I took the same flight 24 hours later. My understanding is that I am entitled to compensation. (They paid for my hotel stay on 8th but I had already paid for a hotel in Cairo on that day)
