What happens when you have a flight with airBaltic that gets cancelled or delayed? It might come as a surprise, but if you are a passenger with this carrier, you’re legally protected by passenger rights regulations. This means that, depending on the specifics of your journey, you could be compensated up to £520 (€600) for the inconvenience as well as other entitlements.
AirAdvisor’s team of legal experts has been submitting claims for passengers and winning compensation since 2017, so we’re here to help you every step of the way. Check to see if your flight is eligible and start your claim by entering the basic details of your flight below.
Was your flight with airBaltic cancelled?
If so, you have a legal right to a refund or a rebooking, as well as cash compensation depending on:
- When you were informed of the cancellation, and
- If the cause was preventable - basically something the airline could have controlled like a staffing issue.
If you were informed of the cancelled flight more than two weeks before departure, you’ll be given a new flight to your destination or a refund, if you want to scrap your travel plans.
If you were informed of the cancellation less than 2 weeks before departure then you can also get a refund or an alternate flight, but you can also get financial compensation if airBaltic is to blame.
How much compensation can you get for airBaltic cancelled flights?
Compensation for flight disruptions is calculated based on the distance travelled, so if you have a cancelled or delayed airBaltic flight, your compensation will be as follows.
- £220 (€250) for flights up to 1,500 km
- £350 (€400) for flights between 1,500 km and 3,500 km
- £520 (€600) for flights more than 3,500 km
Will airBaltic offer care & assistance at the airport?
Yes, as mandated by EU261 and UK261 passenger rights regulations, airBaltic must offer all passengers whose flights were delayed, cancelled, or overbooked the following if they have to wait 2 or more hours at the airport.:
- Meals and refreshments
- Access to free communication like 2 phone calls, emails or wi-fi
- Hotel lodging if you are forced to wait overnight.
You should be offered these things no matter if the airline was responsible for the flight interruption. If you have to pay for any of this on your own, hold onto your receipts because you can include them with your compensation claim.
Was your airBaltic flight delayed?
If your airBaltic flight was delayed, then you can also get cash compensation. Again, this is based on whether or not the airline could have avoided the delay.
If the delay was avoidable, then you are owed up to £520 (€600) based on the distance of your flight and how late you arrived at your destination.
You must arrive at least 3 hours late to qualify for airBaltic delay compensation.
Were you delayed for 5 hours or more? If so, then you are also entitled to a rebooking or a refund as well as assistance at the airport, meaning food, refreshments, and hotel lodging if necessary.
What if airBaltic is not responsible for the delay or cancellation?
If your delay or cancellation was caused by an extraordinary circumstance like extreme weather events, an airport strike, civil unrest, or a bird strike, airBaltic must still provide you with an alternate flight, meals, hotel accommodation (for overnight delays), and related transport, but you will not get financial compensation.
How do you get compensation from airBaltic
Unfortunately, compensation payouts are not automatic, which means you will have to write to the airline requesting it.
- Before you begin, check to see if your flight is eligible for compensation and the amount you are entitled to. This information will be helpful to include in your claim submission letter.
- Gather your flight and travel documents, communication you’ve had with airBaltic, and as many details and supporting evidence for your flight disruption as possible. You’ll also need to include receipts for any expenses you had to make.
- Compose a letter outlining what happened and why you are seeking flight compensation. If you need help, you can use our compensation letter template.
- Then when you’re ready, add your letter and all your supporting documents to airBaltic’s compensation claim submission form.
