How to Claim Baggage Compensation from Scoot: An Expert Guide
Baggage mishandling is one of the most frustrating experiences, even for the most seasoned travellers. There you are at the Scoot baggage carousel waiting, but your belongings never show up. Another nightmare is retrieving your bags and finding that they’ve been damaged. It leaves you wondering how to make a report and file a baggage compensation claim.
In this guide, we’re going to walk you through what you should do before leaving the airport and the steps you should take to get compensated.
What are Your Baggage Rights with Scoot?
Based in Singapore, Scoot signed the international passenger rights treaty called the Montreal Convention in 2007. This means that anytime your luggage is delayed, lost, or damaged, the airline must compensate you up to around £1,600 (€1,920) per passenger.
What to Do if Your Scoot Baggage is Delayed or Lost
Scoot considers luggage delayed until it has gone missing for 14 days. So, before you leave the airport, take the following steps:
- Locate the baggage help desk, and complete a Property Irregularity Report (PIR).
- Keep a copy of the PIR to file with your compensation claim, and retain the PIR number to use for baggage tracing.
- Track the status of your belongings by using Scoot’s baggage tracing system.
- Purchase essentials, like clothing and toiletries, and keep all the receipts for reimbursement.
What Happens Next?
Scoot will look for your luggage. When they find it, they will contact you and arrange for delivery, unless you prefer to collect it yourself from the airport. Once your bags are returned, you can lodge a reimbursement claim for the purchases you had to make for toiletries and clothing.
If 14 days pass and your bags still haven’t been found, then you can file a Scoot baggage compensation claim.

Tips for Avoiding Baggage Mishandling
Here are a few tips for avoiding lost and damaged baggage in the future.
- Add baggage labels. Add your name, email, and phone number to both the outside and inside of your bags.
- Take photos of your suitcases. Photograph the contents as well as the exterior. This will help the airline locate your items if they’re missing. If your luggage is damaged, you will have a way of proving what they looked like prior to checking them with the carrier. You will also have an account of what you packed, so you can better itemise the contents as part of your report and claim.
- Remove old barcodes and tags from previous flights.
- Check-in early so your bags have time to make it to your aircraft.
- Leave enough time between connections. Ideally, you should allow between 1.5 and 2 hours so your bags have time to be loaded.
- Don’t overpack! Overstuffed bags are more likely to be damaged during the loading process.
