Our flight was due to leave at 23:10 on 21st September and it kept getting delayed by an hour then two. We we had no communication with anyone on the day. Then we were told it would get us the following morning at 6:30am on the 22nd September, however this again did not occur. Again, no communication with what was happening and we were waiting around. Many of us with kids at home waiting for us. Our flight then boarded at 10:30 with a further 30 minutes delay once we were on the plane sat down. Whilst at the airport we got β¬12 euro each to get food from some cafes or residents. However, during the night we spent there was nowhere open at the gate we had to spend the night in. We arrived home at roughly 14:30pm on the 22nd. I had two young children at home and unfortunately due to my mum not driving they had the day off school as I was not able to take them. Itβs a huge inconvenience and really sapped the good out of a lovely holiday. The worst thing was not having any staff members update us, we had to keep asking and even then they did not know what was going on, so we couldnβt let family know. There was also a lack of working sockets to charge phones so everyone was queuing and some never had their phones to call a relative who was picking them up.- Palma de Mallorca-Newcastle

Discrimination against Irish citizens from the North of Ireland
Ive got a return flight from dublin to lanzarote. The flight over the seats where so uncomfortable due to a lack of padding that by the time i got to my apartment i can barely walk with sciatic type pain in my right leg. I went online to change my return flight to Belfast to be told it is not recognised as part of Ireland and that ryanair could do nothing for me I would have to book new flights and lose the original. I would say this would be a surprise tp the Irish Citizens in the North of Ireland that Mr O'Leary and ryanair do not see them that way.Overall
very uncomfortable to the point of pain

Complaint and Evidentiary Statement Complainant: Mr Johannes Adriaan (Attie) van Niekerk Against: Ryanair DAC Issue: Unfair commercial practices, arbitrary baggage enforcement, excessive airport check-in fee, and discriminatory treatment on Flight FR3121 (Barcelona β Paris) Contact: +27 83 753 0271; javanniekerk@mweb.co.za Date: [insert date] 1) Summary of the complaint Ryanair staff required my wife and me to pay additional βoversizeβ and airport check-in charges even though our bags met the published personal-item dimensions. Staff manipulated the sizer test (forcing a horizontal orientation so the bag would βfailβ), charged us while allowing others with larger bags to pass, and directed demeaning comments at nearby African passengers. This is an unfair commercial practice under EU and Irish consumer law and contradicts binding EU case-law on hand baggage. 2) Facts (in brief) β’ We designed our trip around carry-on only: custom backpacks 40 Γ 20 Γ 25 cm, under 7 kg. β’ Multiple carriers carried these bags without issue (Turkish, Ryanair, Vueling, Pegasus, Ethiopian). We found that the airlines that we will use have the following allowances for luggage. 1. Turkish airlines a. One bag of 23kg for Economy class b. One personal item of 8kg c. 23 x 40 x 55(118cm) 2. Ryanair a. A free small personal item b. 40 x 20 x 25 to fit under the seat (85cm) c. Priority & 2 cabin bags d. 55 x 40 x 20 (115cm) e. 10kg to be stored in the overhead locker 3. Pegasus Airlines a. Cabin baggage 3kg b. 40 x 30 x 15 (85cm) c. Cabin Baggage 8kg d. 55 x 40 x 20 (115cm) 4. Ethiopian Airlines a. Free Carry on 7kg b. 55 x 40 x 23 (118cm) β’ β’ On Ryanair FR3121 (Barcelona β Paris), gate agents: o Demanded an airport check-in fee because we βdidnβt check in online,β citing Ryanair policy. Nowhere on our document o Forced a horizontal sizer test although the bag fit vertically; then charged us βoversizeβ fees. o Let other passengers with visibly larger bags through without payment. o Told African passengers disputing charges: βthen you must go take a bus,β after their bag fit vertically but was re-tested horizontally. β’ Total charges exceeded ~β¬158 equivalent (bank statement available on request). β’ R3379.36 ZAR 3) Why this is unlawful A. Unfair commercial practices (EU + Ireland) β’ The Unfair Commercial Practices Directive 2005/29/EC bans misleading or aggressive practices that distort consumer choice. Arbitrary, inconsistent enforcement at the gate that coerces immediate payment qualifies. Ireland implements this via the Consumer Protection Act 2007 (Part 3), with consumer damages available under section 74. β’ Selective enforcement/manipulated sizer tests: Forcing an orientation that makes a compliant bag βfailβ is neither transparent nor diligent, and it pressures on-the-spot payments. That is squarely within the Directiveβs concept of aggressive/misleading practices. B. Hand luggage canβt be priced as a supplement if it is βreasonableβ (CJEU) β’ The Court of Justice held that carriage of hand baggage cannot be made subject to a price supplement if it meets reasonable size/weight and security limits (Case C-487/12, Vueling). National courts across Spain have since ordered refunds relying on that ruling. Ryanairβs gate-side upcharges contradict this principle when the item meets the airlineβs stated personal-item dimensions. C. Ryanairβs own published dimensions β’ Ryanairβs current policy allows one free small personal item up to 40 Γ 30 Γ 20 cm under the seat; Priority adds a 10 kg cabin bag up to 55 Γ 40 Γ 20 cm in the overhead. My bag (40 Γ 20 Γ 25 cm) is smaller in volume than the current free allowance and within the older 40 Γ 20 Γ 25 guidance passengers relied on and was only 6.8kg in total. The gate teamβs βhorizontal fitβ demand contradicts the plain meaning of these limits. D. Airport check-in fee as an excessive penalty β’ Ryanairβs policy threatens an airport check-in fee if not checked in online 2+ hours before departure. The fee is set out in Ryanairβs βTable of Fees,β but regulators have repeatedly scrutinised such charges for transparency and proportionality. Applying a punitive fee as a catch-all where boarding passes can be issued without disproportionate cost is vulnerable under UCPD/Irish CPA 2007. β’ Nowhere on our bookings any penalties were imposed if not booked in on-line. All our bookings were made when we were still in South Africa on my personal desktop computer as we were not travelling with any laptop computers or email compatible devices and we could never receive any notification in that regard. β’ E. Enforcement incentives that bias outcomes β’ Public reports confirm Ryanair pays bonuses per βnon-compliantβ bag and has increased those bonuses. This creates an obvious conflict at the gate and helps explain arbitrary outcomes. β’ Furthermore, to this, Ryanair never charged us or questioned our luggage size or weight at any of the previous 2 flights on the same airways as this constitutes unfair practise and money-chasing and bonus greed. F. Ongoing European enforcement context β’ Spain fined several low-cost carriers (including Ryanair) for cabin-bag and related fees; subsequent court orders have required refunds in individual cases, and a large fine is under appeal/suspension pending final judgment. EU consumer organisations and MEPs continue pressing for standardised dimensions and free βreasonableβ carry-on, grounded in the 2014 CJEU ruling. 4) Evidence available if needed. β’ Annexure A Itinerary and boarding passes (all airlines). β’ Annexure B Photos/video: our backpack in the sizer in SA (vertical fit), Even that of the African passengers (kids luggage) β’ Annexure C Proof for gate/airport check-in charges on FR3121. β’ Annexure D Witness contact for the African family subjected to the βtake a busβ remark. (Affi-davit) β’ Annexure E Ryanair Bag Policy (dimensions) as per website. β’ 5) Remedies sought 1. Refund all gate/airport charges imposed on us for FR3121. (Euro 158) 2. Written explanation: why were compliant bags failed via a horizontal test; why were larger bags allowed through; why were passengers subjected to degrading remarks. 3. Policy assurance: o Stop horizontal sizer practices where the bag fits within published dimensions. o Train staff to apply rules consistently and respectfully. o Ring-fence or disclose enforcement-bonus incentives that create perverse outcomes. 4. Undertakings under Irish CPA 2007/UCPD to prevent recurrence, with independent compliance monitoring. 6) Jurisdiction and escalation Ryanair is domiciled in Ireland, and its conduct occurred in the EU. This complaint is suitable for: β’ ECC-Net (cross-border consumer dispute), β’ CCPC (Ireland) as the Irish UCPD enforcer, and β’ The competent national aviation/consumer authority for the place of departure (Spain) and arrival (France), given the gate-side conduct and diversion. 7) Declaration The facts stated are true to the best of my knowledge and belief. Evidence is attached or available on request. Mr. J.A. van Niekerk Boksburg South Africa +27837530271 javanniekerk@mweb.co.zaOverall

Technical problems
I am writing regarding my compensation claim under EU Regulation 261/2004 for flight FR1509 from Malta to Porto on 11 September 2025 (Reservation number: R3L95E). I recently received an update through the Ryanair app stating that my claim was considered βnot eligibleβ because the delay was attributed to βairspace restrictions imposed by air traffic control, outside Ryanairβs controlβ (please find attached a pdf od the claim for reference). However, earlier on the day of the flight I received a message via the Ryanair app indicating that the delay was due to a problem with the aircraft (βaeronaveβ). According to EU261, technical problems or maintenance issues with the aircraft are generally considered to be within the airlineβs responsibility and are not classified as βextraordinary circumstances.β Additionally, the delay of flight FR1509 exceeded three hours at arrival, which under EU261 makes both myself and the other passenger in the same reservation eligible for compensation. Given these facts, I kindly request a re-evaluation of my claim, taking into account the initial notification that the cause of the delay was related to the aircraft. If needed, I can provide a screenshot of the message I received in the app for your review. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your reply and a fair resolution. Kind regards, Marta Lisete Santos da Silva [marta.lisete.silva@gmail.com /916852188] [Reservation number: R3L95E]- Malta-Porto

The flight initially was delayed at the Naples airport before boadring. Thereafter, we were made boarded the flight & there was again a delay. We were compelled to sit in the aircraft for a long time and the flight did not take off approximately till 9:10. The flight was scheduled to land Eindhoven Airport at 8:55. The flight landed very late and even after landing at the Eindhoven airport, we were not allowed to deboard the airplane for approximately 30 minutes & compelled to sit inside the aircraft, which was frustrating. There were no specific reasons mentioned by the airline. During the entire delay time, no care was provided by the airline. Neither the crew or anyone from the airline was even bothered for such inconvenience.- Naples-Πindhoven

Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to formally complain about the appalling experience I had with Ryanair on flight FR2346, scheduled to depart from Palma Mallorca airport to Newcastle airport on 21.09.2025. This flight was delayed by over 12 hours, during which time passengers received no meaningful communication, updates, or assistance from your staff. We were left in the terminal without information, support β a complete failure of customer care and a breach of EU Regulation 261/2004. As a result of this unacceptable delay and total lack of communication, I was forced to book a replacement flight with a different airline at my own expense of Β£220. We had important commitments at home and were not given any reliable information about when, or if, the original Ryanair flight would depart. This situation left me with significant financial losses, which could have been avoided had your staff provided accurate and timely updates. To support this complaint, I have attached a copy of my boarding pass for the original Ryanair flight and documentation for the alternative flight I had to purchase. Given the circumstances, I am formally requesting the following: 1. A full refund for the Ryanair flight, which was not provided within a reasonable time frame. 2. Compensation under EU Regulation 261/2004, due to the excessive delay not being caused by extraordinary circumstances. 3. Reimbursement of the cost of the alternative flight I was forced to book, as well as any other related expenses. Receipts are available upon request. 4. A formal apology for the complete lack of communication and the poor conduct of your ground staff. 5. A written explanation of the delay and what actions Ryanair will take to ensure such incidents are not repeated. This experience was unacceptable and caused both financial and personal stress. I trust Ryanair will handle this complaint with the seriousness it deserves and respond within 14 days, as required under your customer service policy. Influence by other flights
I already had the same exact situation happen to me one month before. I had a flight from paris to madrid and it also got cancelled. However this time it was even more complex as I was leaving paris this time definately. Therefore I had more luggage with me and more stress beacuse I had to hand back the studio I was staying at. That's the reason why I haven't gotten in contact with the airline, because it was the second time in less than a month that it happened to me.... However, I hope that I can get back every single euro that I spent in the flight that got cancelled, in the buses that I had to get instead of the flight, all of the food, metro line to go to the bus, and of course the compensation for having to do a whole 18 hours in a bus.- Beauvais-Madrid

Hello! We were actually not well informed what happened. We got twice provided with 4 EUR food vouchers, but nothing else, neither hotel room nor alternative flight even there were flights to Stockholm not completely booked. There was no Ryanair representatives and airport assistance tried to do best, but they also not got supported by airline, information about delay first came to app of Ryanair and only later to ground service at the airport.- Tallinn-ulemiste International-Stockholm

I arrived more than 7/8 hours later than planned. The airline was not helpful and did not provide any care during this time. This caused us to miss a planned tour and we arrived in the nighttime versus day which was much more dangerous for us as seniors.- Porto-Barcelona

Confusion over luggage check in rights
I have paid an extra Β£382.40 for baggage check-in when there was no need to. All our luggage was under 10kg. When we booked on line or at the airport it looked like it was mandatory to check in and not be able take on board. We got the impression that only small bags could be taken on board. This resulted in the unnecessary extra charge we incurred for checking luggage in that could have been taken on board. I'm not a seasoned traveller that I would know much better.Overall
Confusing baggage check-in information led to wrongly checking in small luggage

The delay was an horrible inconvenience due to the waiting around from 4pm until 10pm and also due to the after midnight next day (2am) landing time as there was no public transport routes available to reach my accommodation.- Manchester-Malaga

CMI problem Marseille airport
Hello, I am a passenger with a valid CMI card (Carte MobilitΓ© Inclusion β French disability card). On [date], at Marseille airport, while boarding Ryanair flight [numΓ©ro du vol] to [destination], the gate agent refused to let me use priority boarding, even though in the past Ryanair staff have always accepted my CMI card for this. The agent was rude and dismissive. This was very upsetting and felt discriminatory. I- Economy

Other - Hello, I am a passenger with a valid CMI card (Carte MobilitΓ© Inclusion β French disability card). On 18/09/2025, at Marseille airport, while boarding Ryanair flight [FR1467] to [Stansted], the gate agent refused to let me use priority boarding, even though in the past Ryanair staff have always accepted my CMI card for this. The agent was rude and dismissive. This was very upsetting and felt discriminatory. I request that Ryanair clarify its policy regarding recognition of disability cards like the French CMI, and ensure staff are properly trained so that disabled passengers are treated with dignity and consistency. Kind regards, Mr Bouloux

Problems at airport
Our flight was originally delayed and then later cancelled because of an emergency landing at Birmingham airport. We were then redirected onto a new flight to Leeds Bradford (no extra cost). We couldnβt find accommodation after calling up and walking into multiple hotels saying they were fully booked, so we had to stay overnight in the airport. We bought food from Greggs and booked a National Express coach from Leeds Bradford airport to Birmingham in the morning. We had drinks from Starbucks and ate lunch in Birmingham. I then went on a train from Birmingham to Northampton before resuming my journey home. My friend went on a train from Birmingham to Coventry and my other friend travelling from Birmingham to Solihull. I had to miss work as this redirection to Leeds had cost us an extra day of travel.- Beauvais-Birmingham

Weather conditions
I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding my Ryanair flight from Copenhagen to Dublin, originally scheduled to depart on 10th September 2025 at 17:15 (Flight Number: FR633). The departure was rescheduled to 20:10, resulting in a delay of three hours before the plane got off the ground. This disruption caused me significant inconvenience, as I had plans arranged in Dublin (I had organised someone to collect me and had dinner reservation), which had to be cancelled. Such a lengthy delay is both frustrating and disappointing from such a reputable airline. Under EU Regulation EC261/2004, I understand that passengers are entitled to β¬250 compensation in cases of significant delays for flights of 1500 km or less.Β I would, therefore, like to request clarification on my rights in this situation and the process for submitting a claim for compensation. I expect Ryanair to handle this matter promptly, including details on compensation and any other measures of redress available. I look forward to your response. Yours sincerely, Evin Coyle Booking Reference: QZJKGA- Copenhagen-Dublin

Our flight has been departed around two hours delay and redirected to Athen due to severe storm weather conditions. We spent more than 3 hours on the aircraft at Athen airport and arrived to Corfu with more than 5 hour delay.- Budapest-Corfu

They have said it was not under their control. But this airline had repeated delays for months in a row, it seems like it is their business strategy to schedule as many flights as possible, despite not having the time to operate them all. I arrived at final destination at 01.33am, I have taken a photo as well so I have the details if need be. I have also had to take an Uber from the airport in Vienna, since it was so late when we arrived.- Bucharest-Vienna

Sam Erskine terrible treatment
Went for a six day hiking holiday, you lost my suitcase and I was without it for three full days with only what I was standing up in, jeans, adidas trainers and a denim jacket. Had to buy essentials, toiletries underwear socks, t shirts a pair of shorts and a few tops, one for me and one for my wife as some of her stuff was in my case. Hers was full of presents. Then after nearly four months of backwards and forwards resubmitting everything numerous times I get offered 90 euros! What an insult I could have bought hiking boots but suffered with my training shoes.Overall

Paid extra to book seats together , split up at gate, unacceptable seats
Paid extra to book seats together then told at gate we were to be split up by 8 rows, the original 27E seat was not acceptable as it was of inferior size and obstructed and 27F did not exist so given 35B middle seat. Why if this plane was different were we not offered 2 seats together elsewhere. I Feel we also should have been refunded the seat payment immediately.Overall

We spoke to Ryanair and they said that our claim was Β£630.98 for three passengers overall because we were delayed for over 6 hours. I have attached the documents for when Ryanair said twice that our payment will arrive in 28 working days but we are yet to receive it. I have also attached my bank statement to show that I didnβt receive the money on the 2nd October for which they said the money got deposited into my bank account. We have sent emails and they have denied saying that we have received it. I spoke to Barclays and they said that I never got a deposit from Ryanair either. I checked and they used the wrong IBAN number which was 8304 but my IBAN number is 8306 and they accepted it was a mistake but Barclays checked again and it still wasnβt received. I also attached a letter from Barclays stating the situation.- Alicante-Bristol
