What to Do if SunExpress Loses or Damages Your Baggage
You’ve planned the perfect holiday, and your SunExpress flight arrived on time, but when you go to collect your baggage, your perfect trip turns into a nightmare: Your baggage is missing, or worse, it’s damaged. What should you do now?
In this guide, you’ll learn what you should do if your SunExpress baggage goes missing or gets damaged, and the steps you should take to get compensated by the airline.
What to Do if Your SunExpress Baggage is Delayed or Lost
It’s very important to make an official report to SunExpress about your missing bags. Doing so allows the airline to begin an investigation. If you skip this step, there is a good chance you will not be compensated for your loss. So, as soon as you can, take the following steps:
- Locate the Lost & Found office in the arrival hall, and complete a Property Irregularity Report (PIR).
- If you’ve left the airport, you can still file a SunExpress PIR within 48 hours of arrival.
- Keep a copy of the PIR to file with your compensation claim, and retain the PIR number to use for baggage tracing.
- Track the status of your belongings by using the SunExpress tracking system.
- Purchase essentials, like clothing and toiletries, and keep all the receipts for reimbursement.
What Happens Next?
Fortunately, most luggage is found within 24 hours, but if 5 days pass and you still don’t have your luggage, the airline recommends completing the Contact Form on their website that will ask you for information about the contents of your bags so they can better locate your missing luggage.
If 21 days pass, your bags will be considered officially lost, so you can then proceed with your SunExpress baggage compensation claim.
What Happens if SunExpress Damages Your Luggage?
If your checked luggage arrives damaged, you should take the following steps, ideally before you leave the airport.
- Go to the Lost & Found Office, and complete a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) before leaving the airport.
- If you’ve left the airport, you can complete the SunExpress Contact Form within 7 days.
- Keep the Property Irregularity Report (PIR) number to use when you file a claim.
- Take photos of the damage so you have supporting evidence for your claim.
- Purchase essentials, and keep the receipts for reimbursement.
- Submit a baggage compensation claim within 7 days.

How to Submit a Baggage Mishandling Claim with SunExpress
You will need to navigate to the SunExpress contact form, and provide the following:
- Photos of your damaged baggage (as applies)
- A copy of the Property Irregularity Report (PIR)
- A detailed list of the items in your bag if it has been lost
- Receipts for essentials and/or receipts from the purchase of your bags
- Details about your trip, including the arrival and departure airports, flight number(s), copy of your boarding pass, and any other relevant information.
- Bag tag(s)
Most airlines will respond within 7-10 days, but you might have to wait up to 30 days for SunExpress to reach a decision about your claim.
Tips for Avoiding Baggage Mishandling
Here are a few tips for avoiding lost and damaged baggage in the future.
- Add baggage labels. Add your name, email, and phone number to both the outside and inside of your bags.
- Remove old barcodes and tags from previous flights.
- Take photos of your suitcases. Photograph the contents as well as the exterior. This will help the airline locate your items if they’re missing. If your luggage is damaged, you will have a way of proving what they looked like prior to checking them with the carrier. You will also have an account of what you packed, so you can better itemise the contents as part of your report and claim.
- Leave enough time between connections. Ideally, you should allow between 1.5 and 2 hours so your bags have time to be loaded.
- Don’t overpack! Overstuffed bags are more likely to be damaged during the loading process.
- Check-in early so your bags have time to make it to your aircraft.
