What Should You Complain About?

When you’ve had a less-than-enjoyable experience, it’s always worth mentioning it to the airline. But it’s important to understand that some situations are more likely to result in compensation than others.

  • Flight delays: Depending on the specifics of your flight, you could be entitled to a maximum of £520 (€600) in flight delay compensation provided your trip began at an EU or UK airport.
  • Cancelled flights: When Kenya Airways cancels a flight without adequate notice, you could also be compensated similar to that of flight delays.
  • Lost or damaged baggage: Should Kenya Airways lose or damage your luggage, you could be entitled to as much as £1,300 (€1,700) depending on your specific route.
  • Denied boarding: Suppose that Kenya Airways oversold a flight and you, as a ticketed passenger, were bumped as a result. If this happens, you could be in line for as much as £520 (€600) in compensation.
  • Poor experiences: If you’re dissatisfied with any aspect of your Kenya Airways experience, it’s always worth filing a complaint. You may get vouchers or other discounts for your trouble.

Your Passenger Rights in Europe and the UK

Even though Kenya Airways isn’t located in the UK or Europe, as an airline, they are still compelled to follow the rules and regulations whenever they depart from an airport in these regions. The specific regulations they must comply with is Regulation EU 261 and Regulation UK 261

So, whenever you experience flight delays of at least 3 hours or you’re given notice of a cancellation less than 14 days before your flight, you can lodge a complaint with Kenya Airways.

Kenya Airways Complaints: What We Suggest

The devil is in the details, as they say, so before you begin, make sure you have all the relevant information ready.

  1. Don’t wait. If you have an issue with the airline, it’s best to submit it as soon as you can. Doing this while the details are still fresh will help you provide all the important information.
  2. Get all your travel documents. This means booking numbers, boarding passes, receipts, photos, and anything else that will validate your complaint.
  3. How to contact you. Let Kenya Airways know the most reliable way to get a hold of you and give them that contact info.
  4. Tell them what you want. It’s best to be polite but direct. Tell them that you are aware of your passenger rights and what you expect. If you’ve had flight interruptions, don’t hesitate to follow the passenger rights regulations we mentioned earlier.

The inflight entertainment not working, limited food

Dec 11, 2024
The inflight entertainment was not working. The flight was outsourced by hifly, the plane was smelling. As the inflight entertainment was not working, passengers were using their mobile to watch videos with loud volume as no headphones. The food was so limited and portion size very small. Totally not acceptable with this type of service. Very disappointing Booking ref: S6MH34

Don't remember

Nov 1, 2024
passengers Ms Zoe Tyrella Alles and Ms Verity Alexandra Smith KQ0101 Heathrow to Nairobi 14/9/2024 18.25 departure 15/9/2024 05.00 arrival This flight was delayed so we unable to get the connecting flight PW718 to Kiiimanjaro. (KQ06718 Nairobi Kenyatta to Kilimanjaro Intl 15/9/2024 8.20 departure, arriving 15/9/2024 9.20) Rearranged flight PW720 from Nairobi to Kilimanjaro 15/9/2024 departure time 20.00 arrival time 21.00. We were given £7•50 in food vouchers at Heathrow and nothing for the stay in Nairobi airport from 8.00 to 20.00. Totally inadequate for purchasing any food in the airport. Delay on departure - over 3 hours Arrival 11 hours 40 minutes later than booked. The others travelling were bumped off their business class seats for this flight and ended up on a different route, but ultimately all on the PW720 flight with us. When they arrived at Nairobi, Antony Noble paid for us to use the flight lounge so we could have a meal. Verity and I had only had drinks up to this time, but we did have massages in the airport. It was a very long tiring start to the climb, as we had arrived in London on the 13th and were early getting to LHR on the 14th. Very difficult to do anything with 4 large luggage bags, 2 rucksacks and a blind person! The airport assistance was helpful but not somewhere you could spend waiting for the flight.

Denied issuance of boarding pass from Nairobi to Mumbai

Oct 28, 2024
I am writing to request compensation for the sale of ticket KQ271 and KQ204 flying from Mauritius to Nairobi and Nairobi to Mumbai on Friday 18th October, whereby it was not advised by Kenya Airways that they require transit visa was required for Mumbai, according to your guidelines. This is in conflict with publicised travel advice that no transit visa is required for UK passport holders for a layover of under 24 hours. As it was deemed that I do not have a transit visa for Mumbai, Kenya Airways in Mauritius would not give me a boarding pass for Nairobi to Mumbai KQ204, despite explaining that I will not be leaving Mumbai airport during transit, therefore I have lost out on this flight fare and connecting flight fare for UK123 from Mumbai to Bangkok. This placed me in a difficult position, where I needed to book a separate flight from Nairobi to Bangkok via Dubai, at a cost of £692 pounds sterling. Please compensate me, as I was misled by Kenya Airways and intend to take the matter further. Regards, Mr. Roshan Jungbahadoor
