So you’ve planned a business or leisure trip on Asiana Airlines, and something goes wrong. Whether it’s the airline that delays or cancels the flight, or you need to adjust your plans and cancel altogether, it’s stressful.

Before panic sets in, read through this guide to Asiana Airlines delayed flight compensation, cancelled flight payouts, and the overall cancellation policy. Then, you’ll know exactly what to do the next time your flight is disrupted.

We’ve been airline compensation experts since 2017, so we know exactly what to do (and not do) to ensure you get the maximum Asiana Airlines compensation you deserve – up to £520 per person.

Key Takeaways for Asiana Airlines Compensation

  • In the EU and the UK, passengers have rights. For flights departing from either area, Asiana Airlines delay or cancellation compensation can be a maximum of £520 (€600).
  • UK/EU Asiana Airlines compensation applies for flights delayed by 3 hours or more and flights cancelled with fewer than 14 days' notice. Instances of denied boarding and missed connections are also eligible.
  • Extraordinary circumstances limit the airline's liability when the interruption causes are outside their control.
  • Depending on your route, it’s possible to encounter Asiana Airlines delays on 89% of flights.
  • Don’t accept vouchers or inconvenient replacement flights when you can get Asiana Airlines compensation or a full reimbursement instead.
  • Trust AirAdvisor to file an Asiana Airlines compensation claim on your behalf when you don’t have the time or find the process overwhelming – our 98% success rate speaks for itself!

Going It Alone – Filing Your Asiana Airlines Delayed Flight Compensation Claim

Want to handle everything yourself? This is what to do for delayed flights that leave the UK or the EU:

  1. There is no dedicated online claim form for Asiana Airlines delayed flight compensation, so you have 2 options to initiate a claim: the online complaints form or call customer service.
  2. The UK phone number is +44 207-340-1630, and the complaint form is located on the Customer Service page under “Voice of Customers.” Contact the airline via whichever method works best for you.
  3. Before starting your official Asiana Airlines flight delay compensation claim, know your rights and check your compensation eligibility with our free calculator. Then, you’ll know exactly what to request.
  4. Follow up weekly (at least) until the claim is resolved, and if you need to escalate, contact the Civil Aviation Authority for UK-departing flights or the departing EU country’s resolution center.
  5. If you still haven’t received what you think you deserve, we can help. Simply start a claim with us in under 5 minutes, and we’ll do all the heavy lifting!

Claim Flight Delay Compensation – The Rules & Regulations

Again, assuming your route leaves either a UK or EU airport, the flight is subject to the conditions in regulation UK261 or EU261, respectively. In short, to qualify for up to £520, the flight needs to encounter a delay at the arrival airport of at least 3 hours.

An additional stipulation means that only delays that are preventable by the airline (not caused by outside sources) qualify for Asiana Airlines compensation. How much compensation you receive will depend on both the delay length and the flight distance:

Flight Route

Distance Category

Delay Time at Destination

Maximum Compensation

London to Paris

Under 1,500km

3 hours minimum

£220 (€250)

London to Lisbon

Between 1,500km and 3,500km

3 hours minimum

£340 (€400)

Frankfurt to Seoul

Over 3,500km

3-4 hours

£260 (€300)*

London to Seoul

Over 3,500km

4 hours minimum

£520 (€600)*

*Note that currently, most UK or EU originating flights travel to South Korea, so most often, your flight will fall into the maximum (over 3,500km) category, and your Asiana Airlines compensation amount will depend solely on the delay time.

Other Types of Asiana Airlines Compensation for Delays

Compensation doesn’t have to be cash. In the case of delays for Asiana flights that are over 3,500km, the same regulations mandate the right to care and assistance for airport delays lasting at least 4 hours:

  • Drinks, meals, and/or snacks
  • Access to communication, like wi-fi and a phone call
  • Accommodation (with transportation to and from) for overnight delays

Lastly, if the delay is 5 hours or more, passengers have the right to a full Asiana Airlines refund if they choose not to continue their travel.

What To Do When Your Asiana Airlines Flight is Cancelled

When you’re at the airport and your flight from the UK or EU is suddenly cancelled, here’s how to handle it:

  1. Keep the travel going. Find the Asiana Airlines representatives at the airport and attempt to re-book on the next available (and suitable) flight. Act fast because an entire planeload of other passengers is trying to do the same.
  2. When the alternate options aren’t acceptable, request an Asiana Airlines refund in full and book with another airline.
  3. Ask the representative to confirm the reason for the cancellation – you may need this later for a claim.
  4. Exercise your right to care in the form of refreshments, hotel stays, and transportation. Note that in most cases, Asiana Airlines only operates one route per day for UK and EU flights, so the chances are good that you’ll be waiting overnight.
  5. Asiana Airlines canceled flights, when less than 14 days' notice is given, may be entitled to claim for cash if the airline is at fault. Save all your documents and information, and prepare to file a claim once at home.

Asiana Airlines Compensation for Cancellations

Provided you don’t get at least 2 weeks' (14 days) notice of a flight cancellation, you can claim up to the same £520 for flights from the UK or the EU. For flights over 3,500km, the Asiana Airlines flight cancellation compensation is as follows:

  • A new flight that leaves less than 1 hour earlier and arrives at the destination under 4 hours late compared to the original one: £260 (€300)
  • A new flight that arrives at the destination 4 or more hours late: £520 (€600)

Passengers are also afforded the same right to care as with delays for when waiting at the airport for over 4 hours.

Asiana Airlines Compensation in Canada

For flights departing or arriving in Canada, like the last example in the chart above, passengers also have rights and can get compensated up to £535 (CA$1,000). When the airline is at fault for the interruption, expect:

  • Delay time at destination of 3-6 hours: £215 (CA$400)
  • Delay time at destination of 6-9 hours: £375 (CA$700)
  • Delay time at destination of 9 or more hours: £535 (CA$1,000)

Also, even if you choose an Asiana Airlines refund instead of a replacement flight, the airline must still pay compensation of £215 (CA$400). During the disruption, you also have the right to care.

The Asiana Airlines Cancellation Policy – Can Passengers Get Their Money Back?

The cancellation policy states that you can get an Asiana Airlines refund within 24 hours of booking your flight, provided the travel is a minimum of 7 days in the future. Additionally, the Asiana Airlines refund policy states that for all flights that depart from Korea, passengers who cancel at least 91 days before departure can also get a full refund. The service charges are waived.

Otherwise, each fare type will have different conditions, so check everything thoroughly before confirming your booking.

Asiana Airlines Missed Connections

The UK and EU also have a provision for compensation when passengers miss a connecting flight. Regardless of the cause, they are responsible for getting you to your final destination or issuing a refund for the unused portion of the trip. Alternatively, if no other flights suit your needs, you can also get a refund and a return trip to the departure point.

When the airline is the cause of the missed connection, passengers can also claim up to £520 for delays at the final destination of at least 3 hours.

Also, if your missed connection results in lost or stolen baggage, Asiana Airlines is liable for up to US$20 per kilogram.

When the Airline Can Get Out of Paying

We’ve talked about the differences in eligibility based on whether or not the airline is the root cause of the interruption. If they are not responsible, it’s referred to as extraordinary circumstances. Here are some examples of causes where Asiana isn’t required to pay:

  • Strikes by any non-airline staff
  • Severe weather
  • Security issues at the airport

On the other hand, though, these causes are attributable to the airline, which means your flight would be entitled to compensation from Asiana Airlines:

  • Asiana staff strikes
  • Lack of staff due to poor scheduling
  • Aircraft issues that would have been resolved by completing routine maintenance

Who is Asiana Airlines?

Asiana flies up to 12 million passengers to destinations around the globe annually. Recently, in December 2024, a merger of ⅔ of the company’s ownership with the flagship airline Korean Air was approved, helping to corner the country’s aviation market.

Anyone with concerns about this change need not worry, as the Korean Air CEO, Walter Cho, stated:

quotes

After the merger with Asiana, we'll continue to grow in revenue and also in size. But my most important measurement of growth is service quality. My top priority is safety, no matter what.

The only thing you need to worry about now is making sure to claim compensation for as much as possible by using this Asiana Airlines info!
