Wizz Air Baggage Allowance: Your Complete Guide to Limits, Sizes, and Fees
Wizz Air passengers have struggled with the airline’s baggage policies, citing hidden fees and confusing rules as factors that contributed to an unpleasant experience. Then, in August 2024, Wizz was fined €770,000 because of “misleading communication related to its automatic check-in service, which influenced consumers towards more expensive packages1.”
The carrier reported ancillary revenues of €2,268.9 million in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024 - a 21.3% increase from the previous year2. So, clearly baggage and other fees have been a smart strategy.
So, how can you make sense of Wizz Air’s baggage policies? Keep reading. We’ll explain the fees, sizes, policies, and what you can do to save some money on baggage.

Wizz Air Baggage Fees
One of the reasons why Wizz Air’s baggage fee policy is so difficult to understand is because it is based on several factors:
- When you travel - high or low season, (Easter, Summer, Christmas holidays are high season)
- How you pay the fees (online, the call centre, or at the airport), and
- How much your (checked) bag weighs
Importantly, the fees are applied per flight, per passenger, per bag. The table will give you a better idea of what to expect.
Note: You may be charged an extra fee to the Wizz agent at the airport IN ADDITION to the fees in the table below.
What Can You Bring On-Board a WIZZ Flight?
Each Wizz Air ticket holder is allowed to bring at most two bags onboard a flight. We’ll cover the maximum weights, sizes, and fees next. But in addition to bags, passengers can also bring the following at no extra charge:
- Reading material
- Phone
- A coat or blanket
- Food for duration of the flight (for children less than 2 years old)
- A foldable baby stroller or small crib (You can take this to the door or steps of the aircraft)
- Crutches
Hand Baggage Allowance
You’re allowed to take 1 carry-on bag FREE of charge. This bag must be 40 x 30 x 20 cm, no more than 10 kg. Roughly the size of a laptop bag or a small backpack, and it must fit under the seat.
If your free carry-on is bigger than the required dimensions, Wizz will charge you the oversize bag fee at the airport, which is €13.00 per kilo, per item, per flight.
Paid Carry-on Bags - Wizz Priority
If you want to bring a larger bag, you must add Wizz Priority to your booking. With this upgraded option, you can bring 2 carry-on bags: 1 that fits under your seat (free) and 1 that fits in the overhead bin.
This second bag (a trolley bag usually) must be no larger than 50 x 40 x 23 cm, including wheels and handles, and weigh no more than 10 kg max. Also, it must be able to fit into the overhead bins.
How much does Wizz Priority cost?
The non-refundable fee for Wizz Priority is between €10.00 – €55.80 if you purchase it during the booking process, online after booking, or via the Wizz Call Centre. If you purchase it at the airport, it is €55.00
In addition to the extra carry-on bag, Wizz Priority will also get you Priority Check-in and Boarding.
Wizz Carry-On Allowance | |||
Hand Baggage | 40cm x 30 cm x 20cm | 10 kg max | Free |
Cabin (Trolley) Bag | 55cm x 40cm x 23 cm | 10 kg max | You must purchase Wizz Priority or have Wizz Privilege Pass, WIZZ GO or Wizz Plus bundles |
Wizz Air Checked Baggage Allowance
If you want to add checked baggage, you’ll have to pay another fee based on when you travel the weight of the bag, and where you purchase it (online, call centre, or at the airport), as you’ll see in the following table.
Each passenger is allowed to buy allowance for as many as 6 checked bags, that weigh:
- 10 kg,
- 20 kg,
- 26 kg
- 32 kg
Each bag must not exceed 149 x 119 x 171 cm.
Can you purchase any combination of weight options?
No, and in fact, this is where many passengers get confused.
Every passenger can buy, at most, ONE 10 kg bag. If you need to check more, then you can only choose from the higher weights (20 kg, 26 kg, 32 kg).
So, for example, if you want to check a total of 5 bags, then you have two options:
- Buy ONE 10 kg bag + 4 bags from one of the weight categories OR
- Buy 5 bags from one of the weight categories.
Also, Wizz only lets you buy THREE checked bags online. If you need or want more (up to 6) you must buy them at the airport where it is more expensive.

Wizz Air Baggage Allowance for Children and Infants
If you’re travelling with kids or babies, you’re allowed to bring the following items with you on board your flight.
- One diaper for every hour of your flight
- Baby Wipes
- Change of clothes for baby
- Extra soothers
- Small toys
- One tagged and foldable stroller that you can take roll or push up to the aircraft door.
Strollers, Car Seats, Cots
You can take a stroller (non-motorized), pram, foldable cot, or car seat with you free of charge, but these items will be stored in the cargo hold of the plane.
You don’t have to check these items in at the check-in counter unless you want to. If you need them to get through the airport, you can use them up until you board, at which point an agent will take it, tag it, and send it to the hold. When you land, it will be returned to you at the gate.
Booster seats are not allowed in the cabin. If you bring one onboard, it will be considered additional baggage with all the extra fees.
Car Seats
If you want to bring a car seat into the cabin, you will have to buy an extra seat for it (at the regular fare). It must come with a latch to fasten it to the seat belt. You’ll be given a loop belt by the airline during boarding, and you must use it whenever the seatbelt light is on.
Flying with a Pet
Pets are not allowed on Wizz Air flights either in the cabin or in the hold of the aircraft. Only licensed service dogs are allowed onboard, and the owner must alert Wizz at least 48 hours before departure and provide the proper documentation.
Bringing Sports Equipment on a Wizz Flight
You can take sports equipment with you, but each item must not be larger than:
149 cm x 119 cm x 171 cm and 32 kg
If possible, book your sports equipment online or through the call centre to avoid extra charges at the airport. You can add this baggage option up to 3 hours before departure, but space can be limited.
If you don’t see your items in the list below, then contact the airline at least 72 hours before departure as it will need to be approved first.
Fees for Sporting Equipment
- €40 per item online or via the call centre.
- €60 (approximately) per item if paid at the airport.
Sporting Equipment Allowed on Wizz Flights

Expert Tips and Baggage Advice
- You can avoid paying extra for large or overweight bags and other bulky items by shipping them ahead of your flight.
- If you’re travelling with a car seat for your child, you can fill the extra space in the box with clothing so you won’t be overweight in your regular luggage.
- Always prepay for baggage and do this online because you’ll save money.
- If you have lots of heavy clothing to pack, try to wear some if possible to reduce the weight of your baggage.
- Use compression bags so you can fit more into smaller spaces. This allows you to bring more in your carry-on bag and save money on cabin or checked bag fees in a higher weight category.
- If your checked baggage is lost or damaged, you can get compensation from the airline.
