As a charter and cargo airline, DAT must still comply with EU air passenger rights regulations for cancellations and delays. This means that you’re entitled to as much as €600 (£520) in compensation if your flight qualifies. Let’s explore how this applies to various flight disruptions and how you get paid by the airline.

How Much Compensation Can You Get from DAT?

Thanks to the air passenger rights Regulation EU261, you can get varying amounts of cash compensation for DAT flight delays, cancellations, and other flight disruptions.

  • Flights less than 1,500km - Up to to €250 (£220) per passenger
  • Flights between 1,500 and 3,500km - Up to €400 (£350) per passenger
  • Flights over 3,500km - Up to €600 (£520) per passenger

DAT Flight Delays

You’ve had a flight delay with Danish Air Transport, and now you’re wondering if you’re owed compensation for the inconvenience. Here’s what you need to know.

DAT owes you up to €600 (£520) per passenger, based on the travel distance, if you arrive at least 3 hours late at your final destination. In addition to this, if your delay means you have to wait at the airport for 2 hours or more, you’ll be compensated with meals and access to communication.

If you have an exceedingly long delay of 5+ hours, you can request a refund or an alternate flight to your destination at no extra cost to you. Also, if you’re stranded at the airport overnight because of the delay, DAT must give you hotel lodging and transportation to and from the airport.

Cancelled Flight Compensation with DAT

Of course, if your flight is cancelled, you will be offered an alternate flight or a ticket refund. You can also get compensation for a cancelled flight if you were notified less than 2 weeks before your flight.

If the cancellation was because of an event within DAT’s control, you can claim up to €600. The precise amount you get is determined by the distance of your flight, as it is with delays.

All you have to do is submit the compensation claim and wait for your money to arrive in your bank account.

Can You Get Denied Boarding Compensation?

You can get a maximum of €600 (£520) from DAT if you’re denied boarding because your flight was overbooked. Again, the exact amount you get is based on the flight distance.

Missed Connections with DAT

Whenever a DAT flight is late or cancelled, and you miss your connecting flight on the same booking, you're usually eligible to claim flight compensation for a missed connection. Again, your flight distance will determine how much you’re paid by the airline.

When Compensation Won’t Apply

Financial compensation is only possible if DAT is responsible. This means that if the airline could have controlled the circumstances of the delay or cancellation, you can expect to have a successful claim.

On the other hand, if your flight was interrupted because of extraordinary circumstances, then you will not qualify for cash compensation, but you will still get the care and assistance at the airport.

What to Do if Your DAT FLight is Disrupted

You can take several steps, for delays and cancellations, to ensure that you receive the compensation you're entitled to. Here a few things you can do to ensure a smooth compensation process:

  1. Understand your passenger rights.
  2. Communicate with DAT to uncover what caused the delay or cancellation.
  3. Collect documentation. Make sure you gather and store relevant supporting documents, from boarding passes to written confirmations of the disruption.
  4. Use AirAdvisor's resources: We have a free compensation checker tool that allows you to calculate how much compensation you're entitled to.

What to Avoid

There are a couple of things we don't recommend doing.

Don’t accept travel vouchers: Vouchers are likely to have restrictions, like short expiry periods and blackout dates. More importantly, accepting a travel voucher can eliminate your eligibility for further cash compensation.

Don’t sign agreements you don’t completely understand: Common sense? Maybe, but quickly signing agreements without fully understanding them can detract from your chances of getting DAT compensation.
