Volotea hasn’t had a strike in quite awhile, but there’s always a chance one will be announced, particularly during the busiest travel seasons. But fortunately, you’re protected by some of the best passenger rights rules in the world. So, to prepare we’re going to help you learn about your entitlements as a Volotea passenger and how to apply them with our complete airline strike compensation guide. If you've already been affected by a Volotea strike, check to see if you’re eligible for compensation, by entering your flight details below.

4 Steps to prepare for a Volotea strike

  1. Sign up for notifications: If you haven’t already, sign up for Volotea alerts or download their mobile app to get updates if your flight is affected.
  2. Check for travel insurance: Check the coverage in your travel insurance. If you don’t have insurance, check your credit card to see if it offers some protection for strike-related flight disruptions.
  3. Pack for delays: Pack a carry-on with essential items for extended delays at the airport.
  4. Remember to document everything: If your Volotea flight is delayed or cancelled, remember to start keeping a record of conversations you have with the airline, and collect boarding passes, receipts and other materials that can support your case if you decide to file a claim later on.

Can you modify your ticket with Volotea?

This depends on the kind of ticket you purchased. Let’s take a closer look.

  • Refundable tickets: You can change or cancel these without a fee, but always check the rules of your specific ticket to verify.
  • Non-refundable tickets: Contact Volotea to see if they will allow changes. Usually, airlines will allow some flexibility with changes if they know a strike could be disruptive to passengers.
  • If you can’t change your flight, then you can wait until your flight is cancelled by Volotea. This way, you’ll have the choice of a rebooking (free of charge) or a refund.

Will Volotea help you if your flight is disrupted?

Yes! In fact, Volotea is required by law to keep you informed about any unfolding strike activity that may affect your travels. But they will also help you in the following ways if you have flight disruptions.

  • Cancelled Flights and Extended Delays. Volotea will give you the choice of a rebooking at no extra charge OR a refund if your flight is cancelled or delayed by 5 hours or more.
  • Flight delays. If you’re stuck at the airport for 2 or more hours, you’ll be given vouchers for meals and refreshments and, if you are delayed overnight, Volotea will provide hotel accommodation and transport. If you have to pay for these things yourself, keep your receipts for reimbursement.

Will Volotea repay you for the inconvenience?

If you end up arriving at your destination 3 or over hours late at your final destination, or if your flight is cancelled within 14 days of departure, then Volotea could owe you as much as 600 EUR. Just remember that for this to happen, the strike must be held by airline employees.

What happens when there’s a 3rd party strike?

You might face delays and cancellations when other sectors of the airline industry go on strike. In fact, it’s not uncommon to see airport staff like ground crew or air traffic controllers go on strike.

If any of these situations arise and lead to flight interruptions, Volotea will try to put you on the next available flight or give you a refund (for cancellations or 5+ hour delays).

If you’re left waiting for more than 2 hours at the airport, you’ll still be given refreshments and food vouchers, but sadly, you won’t be eligible for compensation in these cases.

What are your rights as a Volotea passenger?

As a Volotea passenger, you’re protected by Regulation EU261 as long as you travel to, from, or within Europe. So, if you have strike-related delays or cancellations, you can expect some assistance from the airline, including repayment if you’re late by at least 3 hours or if your flight is cancelled at the last minute.
