Such events are typically called extraordinary circumstances and in such cases, you are not entitled to a LATAM Airlines Group missed flight refund.
All airlines will generally try to book you on the next available flight at no additional charge, in the case of cancelled flights. You may agree to the proposed flight or request another replacement flight, or demand reimbursement if you are not happy with any of the options proposed.
Note: If your rebooked scheduled departure arrives at a similar time to your original departure time, you're not entitled compensation. The law is fair and allows airlines not to pay compensation if you can reach your destination with minimum inconvenience. In most cases, passengers who have a cancelled flight will have valid claims for a LATAM Airlines Group flight compensation.

LATAM Airlines Group Flight Refund policy
A flight compensation and a refund are two different things. Regulations allow you to receive both: a cancellation refund and compensation.
In case of a cancellation, an airline will try to re-book you on the similar flight, but if that becomes impossible, a cancellation refund will be a full cash refund. Generally, your claim would succeed, providing there were no extraordinary circumstances beyond airline control.
If LATAM Airlines Group cancels your flight to extraordinary circumstances (such as Covid travel restrictions or a serious illness) and you were offered no replacement flight, you can obtain a ticket refund in full, since your flights booked were not available.
Types of ticket refunds: A full refund must be in cash or credit. Vouchers are allowed only if you specifically agree to it. We do not recommend accepting vouchers due to short expiry dates and potential restrictions on redemption.
Note: If LATAM Airlines Group offers a replacement flight with approximately the same arrival time and you decide not to take it, there is a possibility of you losing the right to get both compensation and a ticket refund.
Rule of thumb: you can generally reject alternative flights and receive a refund in full, if a new replacement flight arrives 3+ hours later from your initial scheduled arrival time.

The flight was cancelled and I became aware of this when I called to reserve the animal transport service. Since I need to travel with my pets, they could not put me on another airline and I have to wait for a week for a new flight. I have to cover the cost of new pappers for the export of the animals, and a place to live since I had given up my appartment already.
On 6th October 2021 five members of my family - all covered with XXXXX Insurance - began their travel from Budapest (HU) to Asuncion (PY), with their first stop in Madrid (ES) where they had to get on to another flight. Four of them had a flight ticket valid to Asuncion with a transit in Sao Paulo; and the fifth only to Sao Paulo. They all got their negative PCR tests as well as certification about their Covid-19 vaccination; and the health declaration to Brasil, in printed format. The flight from Madrid was due at 00:10 a.m. 7 Oct. 2021, with the time of arrival 5:50 a.m. local time in Sao Paulo; and from there, further to Asuncion, at 7:30 local time, arriving at 9:30 a.m. to Asuncion. Their boarding was denied in Madrid because the Paraguayan health declaration was not completed and downloaded yet by those four whose ticket was due to Asuncion, so they didn't have the QR code of it yet. The control persons at the airport told that since their ticket is a transfer ticket, with only a stop in Sao Paulo, the Paraguayan health declaration should have been completed min. 30 minutes before boarding. However, in the e-mail sent by the flight company (Latam Airlines) two days before the trip, reminding us to online check-in, there wasn't any word about this requirement, not even any warning that they will ask for the PARAGUAYAN health declaration and not the BRASILIAN one in Madrid. Moreover, in another email by them there was the Brasilian health declataion's URL and not that of the Paraguayan. Since the flight they were to board at that moment went to Brasil, not to Paraguay, we all thought that during the more than 10-hours flight there will be enough time to fill out their declaration and upload the required documents (image of the certification of vaccination and the document of the negative PCR test). We didn't know that technically this boarding was regarded as the boarding to the PARAGUAYAN flight. Besides this, the staff was repulsive and not helpful at all. They didn't take it in account that it was midnight and one of the traveling family members was a 78-years old lady and there were two kids, too - without reliable Wifi at the airport so they were practically unable to fill out the forms on the spot. We find these proceedings and the treatment unjust and unrightful and will do everything possible for the refund of these five flight tickets, plus the costs of the accommodation in Madrid and the replacement tickets we had to buy. Because of the high prices and the lack of information and time, they were not able to travel to the originally planned destinations but instead we bought tickets back to Budapest. We had exact plans in Brasil and Paraguay and due to this deny of boarding these are all eliminated. Our loss is much greater than the price of these tickets. I wasn't able to travel because of other reasons. According to our plans I would have joined my family somewhat later in Asuncion. My partner would have been allowed to board the flight to Sao Paulo but it was impossible for him to leave behind his mother and children, with a huge amount of luggage.
Got the notification at 9 am in the morning that our flight was cancelled the same day at 20:15, less than 12 hours before our scheduled departure! The flight got rescheduled to the next day at 4 pm but that would mean that we would need to wait 24 hours at the airport in Frankfurt, pay for a hotel and a new antigene covid test.
