Unfortunately, with today’s busy airspace, delayed and cancelled Aegean Airlines flights can happen to anyone. That’s why our Aegean flight disruptions list is so important. But the good news is that on a European scale, this airline fares relatively well. When researching the top airlines for 2024, we found that Aegean Airlines had:

  • A 76.2% on-time rate and a 0.63% cancellation rate in 2022.
  • An 84.1% on-time rate and a 0.7% cancellation rate in 2023.

As you can see, the delay rate has improved significantly with just over 15% of Aegean flights incurring a delay in 2023. Although the number of cancelled flights increased, the difference was marginal.

To provide an idea of the numbers, in 2023, Aegean Airlines offered 79,174 flights, so over 12,500 flights were delayed and about 550 were cancelled.

If your Aegean flight was delayed, canceled or overbooked within the last 3 years, you could be eligible for up to €600 in compensation.Check Your Flight

Why Does Aegean Airlines Cancel Flights?

The easiest way to know for sure is to ask the Aegean staff at the airport or get in touch with their customer service department. In a general sense, these are the most common reasons a flight ends up on the Aegean flights cancelled list:

  • Extreme weather.
  • Aegean Airlines staff strikes.
  • Strikes with airport personnel, such as baggage handlers or air traffic control.
  • Security issues on the plane or at the airport.
  • Insufficient flight staff.
  • Aircraft difficulty, which can be caused by manufacturing defects, insufficient maintenance, or mechanical breakdowns.

What To Do To Minimise Aegean Airlines Disruptions

The most effective steps you can take to hopefully prevent your trip ending up on the Aegean flights delayed and cancelled list occur at the booking stage.

  • Book early flights. Your plane can have multiple routes before yours, so early flights are less prone to disruptions due to something that happened previously.
  • Fly direct or at least limit connections. When you have multiple flights to get to your destination, one delay or cancellation can throw everything out of whack. Avoid missed connections by flying direct whenever you can.
  • Avoid routes on the most delayed list. Because Aegean usually offers at least a few options at different times for each route, choose one that doesn’t appear on the above list. For example, as mentioned, flight A3608 and A3609 are better choices than other London-Athens options.
