Aeroflot Flight Cancellations: When are they Liable?
When Aeroflot can escape liability: Aeroflot claims if a flight was cancelled due to events outside of its control; for example bad weather, or issues at the airport. Such events are typically called extraordinary circumstances and in such cases, you are not entitled to a Aeroflot missed flight refund.
All airlines will generally try to book you on the next available flight at no additional charge, in the case of cancelled flights. You may agree to the proposed flight or request another replacement flight, or demand reimbursement if you are not happy with any of the options proposed.

Aeroflot Flight Refund policy
A flight compensation and a refund are two different things. Regulations allow you to receive both: a cancellation refund and compensation.
In case of a cancellation, an airline will try to re-book you on the similar flight, but if that becomes impossible, a cancellation refund will be a full cash refund. Generally, your claim would succeed, providing there were no extraordinary circumstances beyond airline control.
If Aeroflot cancels your flight to extraordinary circumstances (such as Covid travel restrictions or a serious illness) and you were offered no replacement flight, you can obtain a ticket refund in full, since your flights booked were not available.
Types of ticket refunds: A full refund must be in cash or credit. Vouchers are allowed only if you specifically agree to it. We do not recommend accepting vouchers due to short expiry dates and potential restrictions on redemption.
Note: If Aeroflot offers a replacement flight with approximately the same arrival time and you decide not to take it, there is a possibility of you losing the right to get both compensation and a ticket refund.
Rule of thumb: you can generally reject alternative flights and receive a refund in full, if a new replacement flight arrives 3+ hours later from your initial scheduled arrival time.

Aeroflot Flight Delay Compensation
While all airlines attempt to operate on time, sometimes delays happen. EU regulation 261 (EU 261) protects passengers in cases of flight delays.

They just cancelled the flight because russian government closed borders. Promised to make a refund, but no action for 3 months already.
I had to fly out of Vilnius on Jan 16 10:55 a.m. but on the day prior (Jan 15) I had a call from the airport and they let us know that my flight got cancelled and the only one they could offer is on Jan 16 5:05 in the morning. I of course took it. Problem is, my friends, who also went on the same route to Bangkok via Moscow (we were suppose to fly all together), also got a phone call about the cancellation but they got this flight from Vilnius to Moscow much later than me so they waited for their connecting flight to Bangkok way less. I had to fly early in the morning and wait in the Moscow Sheremetyevo airport for 12 hours for my flight to Bangkok while my friends who arrived later waited for like 2-3 hours.
My flight should have taken place on October, 25 from Stuttgart to Moscow (SU2337. A carrier is Aeroflot (Russian airlines). Chronology is following. I arrived to the airport of Stuttgart from Friedrichshafen, then I registered myself for the flight and went through security check. Then all passengers were boarded on the plane. We waited for a take-off for an hour and a half, then the captain of the plane announced: "Unfortunately, the flight is cancelled due to technical reasons, please take back your luggage and wait for further instructions". Hell began. The passengers were not provided with food and water and were forced to wait for further instructions in an endless queue. Then I decided to change the ticket via a call center of the company. All of sudden, a call center operator said to me that it was not allowed to change the ticket for free and they charged me 60 euros. I think everybody agrees that I suffered immense humiliation in the described situation. Of course, I filed a complaint to an office of the company. It agreed to refund me the money for ticket's exchange. It should be noted that I still have not got the compensation on my bank account. The day before yesterday I filed an additional complaint in order to compensate my transportation and food expenses. Please advise me what legal remedies I have to reimburse my sufferings and costs.
